5 DAYS/4 NIGHTS

1st day: Completely dedicated to a guided tour of Arezzo. We will visit the Logge del Vasari in Piazza Grande, the Romanesque Church of Santa Maria, the Church of San Domenico with a crucifix by Cimabue, and the Cathedral plus the nearby park perched on all that remains of the town’s ancient walls. Lastly we will visit Piero della Francesca’s masterpiece La Leggenda della Vera Croce (The Legend of the True Cross) in the Basilica of San Francesco.

2nd day: Dedicated to places associated with Piero Della Francesca, the great artist who typified the Renaissance. First we stop at Monterchi to marvel at the fresco Madonna del Parto. From there we will go on to Sansepolcro, which was the artist’s birthplace. A visit to the Civic Museum will be an opportunity to see his work, including The Resurrection, San Giuliano and San Lodovico.

3rd day: A day spent in Urbino, another of the places made famous by Piero della Francesca. This is where the artist worked when in the employment of the Ducal court and where he left splendid masterpieces. There will be a guided visit to the town including the Ducal Palace. At the end of the visit we will return to Arezzo. On the way in to the town we will visit the hunting lodge of the Dukes of Montefeltro and watch a display of falconry, a common method of hunting during the Renaissance.

4th day: Perugia, capital of the Umbria region, and a city in which Perugino and Pinturicchio became famous figures of the Renaissance. This fascinating programme will follow the footsteps of the great artists and come to a rich and fitting conclusion with a visit to Spello and the Baglioni Chapel.

5th day: Florence, the pearl of the Renaissance. The programme will be designed to highlight the places,
monuments and churches which most express this artistic period. In the afternoon there will be a guided visit to the Uffizi Gallery and (on request) to the famous Vasari Corridor.
