(June 21) Opting out of the last weekend trip to Lipari, I wanted to go to the beach in town! Since we didn't have access to a car to drive us down, we walked. Cait and I were the only ones who went, while the other ladies decided to stay at our apartment all day. It is actually quite the hike down (and up) the mountain to town. Roccalumera is the name of the town, and we went to the beach first. On our way down to the beach, Cait was telling me a story and was waving hello as part of it. Just at that moment a car was going by and beeped at us as it was going around a curve. It then proceeded to back up around the curve, back to us. The two Italian men inside started to talk to us in Italian, and we were pretty sure they were asking us to get in for a ride. We kept saying we didn't speak Italian, and that wasn't enough for them to start driving away. So, we just started to walk away. Two more Italian men were a little ways down the road watching this, and they
also started to talk to us in Italian. Again, we said we didn't speak Italian (in Italian "Non parlo Italiano"...yeah I did learn some Italian!). They also didn't stop talking, so we just said ciao (bye) and walked away. Eventually, we made it to the beach. The beach here is a very pretty rock beach (but also very hard on your feet if you have soft feet like I do

) After an hour or so there, we went to the internet cafe to shoot out a few emails, and a gelateria before going to the grocery store for a few things for our small BBQ to take place later for dinner. The Mediterranean Sea here...was ice cold, I only went shin deep in and ran back to my towel (I know, pathetic). Cait was determined to go swimming, which I got a video of. She was having me make sure the sharks didn't get her either haha. After we were done in town, we started the long walk back up at the hottest time of the day (yeah, not a good idea). Luckily, two staff members that had not gone on the Lipari trip drove past us, and
picked us up! I credit Cait for that good luck.
We cooked burgers and chicken, and had a salad to go with it. We spent the rest of the night entertaining ourselves... including staying up to watch the sun rise.
The next day, Chokie made us pizza from scratch, along with pasta and sauce in our kitchen where he had set up his television for all of us to watch the quarter finals football (soccer for us) game: Italy versus Spain. Spain won in a shootout.
