Edit Blog Post
So much has happened this year and it's taken ages for me to get off my butt to do a blog and load up some photos. So here is a bit of an overview.
Earlier this year I became good friends with Mic who is friends with a mate back home. Since then we've done quite a bit together and no, for all you out there raising their eyebrows, he is not a boyfriend just a good mate. In June we headed off to Sardinia for a week. Sardinia is an island of the west coast of Italy. We hired a car and drove around the island stopping in various towns. Our main aim was to just hang on the beach but unfortunately it was overcast a lot of the time but we did get a some sun. We started in the north-west at Alghero and drove south along the coast stopping at Spiaggia della Pelosa which is a beautiful white, sandy beach then through Oristano to Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia. While in Cagliari we decided to visit the ancient ruins of Nuraghe Su Nuraxi. We checked out some of the nightlife in Cagliari and headed to some of
the trendy beach bars. The bars seemed pretty cool but I learnt something very valuable that night, that Mic is clearly prettier than me. Now I'm sure you're wondering why I would be thinking this, well basically throughout the trip he had more men checking him out and to top it off while at the bars, which to clarify weren't gay bars, he had several men chat him up including one who wanted to take him home for a haircut. Need I say more. We were also in Sardinia during the football World Cup so while in Cagliari we decided that we would find somewhere to watch the Australia v Brazil game of the world cup. Now you think seeing that Italy is such a huge football nation it would be played everywhere but no, it took us ages to find a small wine bar who was showing it on a small TV. So Mic and I settled in with only two other people in the bar to watch the game. Strangely enough the other two guys were Brazilians which allowed for some friendly banter throughout the game and led to a very drunken evening out. We even managed to
adopt an old drunk Italian man who took us to a pretty good little resturaunt. It was fun though because two of them didn't speak English, we didn't speak Italian, Mic and two of them spoke Spanish, but we all seemed to communicate with each other.
Sardinia has some beautiful coastline and amazing blue water which was great to swim in. So after Cagliari we headed east to the Golfo di Orosei to Cala Bonone. From there we took a boat to check out th Grotta del Bue Marino which is an amazing cave in the cliff face. Then we had time to relax and swim in the beautiful blue water. Unfortunately this was the last most significant thing we did in Sardinia. So we drove through the centre back to Alghero where we were to catch our plane. Now Sardinia is a very mountainous island with many windy roads, now add that with Italian drivers and basically it's 'Oh My God' crazy people who go around blind bends on the wrong side of the road. I don't know how many times I thought someone was going to crash into us. Poor Mic had to put up with me
freaking out constantly. But he managed to ignore it. We did stop at a random restaurant in the middle of nowhere for a last bite of traditional Italian food. We decided to be safe and ordered pizzas, with Mic ordering a patata pizza, but this didn't turn out exactly as we were expecting either. He managed to get the ultimate fatty food which is a big cheesey pizza with fried chips on it. I think we would of loved it if we were hung over. So it was the last meal in beautiful Sardinia which meant it was time to return to good 'ol London.
It's been a busy year and lots has happened. I went to Royal Ascot with some friends. For those of you who don't know this is part of England's Spring Racing Carnival. I had a great day but it really doesn't match up to Melbourne's. I'm looking forward to Derby day next time I'm in Oz. I've had a few more day trips around England one of which was to Birmingham. What can I say about Birmingham, hmmmm......... yep that's about it I think. Basically I'd say don't bother putting it on your itinery
when you come over here. The only good thing that came out of it was visiting Kenilworth Castle with Naomi on our way up. It basically is just another castle but for those who know a little of English history it is the castle that Robert Dudley lived in for sometime and apparantly he courted Queen Elizabeth. oooo, gossip :-) I have to say it is worth the visit even though it is really, really cold.
I have to say that the end of the year became quite busy. I was trying to spend quite a bit of time with my friend Naomi who returned to Oz at Christmas and another of my good friends was in an accident and I spent quite a bit of time looking after her. I did manage one more day trip to Canterbury with friends. After fighting the traffic to get out of London we manage to eventually make it to the town. It is quite a petty town with lots of old buildings but the main draw card is the Cathedral which I have to admitt is pretty impressive and well worth checking out. We didn't see any other main tourist things
but walked around the town and had lunch in an old pub. Among a bit of silliness that drew a few strange glances. But those who have been out with me are usually used to that. A week before Christmas I decided to throw a Christmas dinner for my friends and to say good bye to Naomi. I cooked a roast dinner for 15 people. Pretty impressive hey, well I was impressed. But I do have to admitt that my friend, Jacinta cooked part of it. She is an awesome cook and decided that she wanted to play as well. But it was a good night. Good food, good friends, what more do you need. And it was a good way to get ready for Christmas as I knew that I wouldn't be in London.
