here is our site
Who would not be inspired by this ... lol Hi All,
Today we met with some of the Italain students. They speak little to no English. So we will all bought Italain to English dictionaries. We have found that we are comic relif to the locals. When we ask or point to something they say something we do not understand to the nearest Italian and they all laugh. But I do not feel so bad becasue several universities use this town as a home base to work with university. We are not the only ones being made fun of.
Well we found how we would have to walk to school. We have a 40 minute walk to the stairs from hell. They did not look so bad a first then we realized they would never end. After we got to the top of one flight they kept on going. There are 319 stair to climb. But they are kind enought to put benches on some of the flights so that you can catch the lung that you are coughing up at that perticular moment. I am sure they will get easier with time.
But we have all found that the schedule here is a lot more liad back than we are
used to. We are asked to sketch in our books ALL the time. As Beatrice said 'think of of your sketch book as an extension of your hand - it should always be there'. None of us were thrilled to hear that. But I am glad to see that some people can stetch worse than me. That gives me comfort. But Aimee asures us that we will all be much better by the end. So I will have have to believe her.
We also got to see the site we will be working with. It is beautiful sea side site. Near a little town on thd Adratic Sea. It was very very nice. They had done a landscape detail with stones. It was on the a path that linked two sea side cities. Where this path terminated there was this land sculputure that was very nice. So our site is the earthworks - best way I can describe it. But I will post picutes. It was a 40 minute ride by train - so we got to see some of the landscape that were in. It is so hilly here. Not the same kind of hilly back home. They are mountains and they have these farms that go up the side that make this quilt. It is so neat to see how things come together here. We are going to get to tour A.P. (Ascoli Piceno) on Monday - three hour walking tour.
It is funny our hotel is on one hill, so we walk down intown to cross to the next hill and go to school. The school is an old monestary that has been converted to the architecture department. Yes I did scetch this and I took pictures I do not have to tell you which one of these looks better. So this monestary is the hightest piont in AP. Hence the stairs that never end. But today I got adventures and found another set of stairs that gets you to the same piont but in a kinder way. They have a longer landing between staris and curve up the hill (when I say hill we are refering to mountains .. just so you can get a perspective) so it is not as horrible. No else will take these stairs for fear of looking wimpy. But I am not 20 and I am not proud I will take those stairs and catch my lungs as I am walking the longer landings to the next set of smaller stairs....lol
So after we were done with the site visit we came home to the hotel. And found dinner. They open for dinner around 7:00 here. That is just the way they do things. Everything closes at 1:30 (class in not over by then) and things reopen any from 4:30 to 7:00 and stay open very late. Some nights we have not gotten done with dinner till midnight. So it is very diffrent here.
I will talk to you later.
