Geo: 45.4637, 9.18813This has been such a blessing to be able to go on this trip with Wendy. We are so fortunate and I want everyone to know we do not take that for granted. God is so good to us as a couple, family, and nation. It is also an incredible blessing to have a mostly healthy back again. I had major back surgery in late May, and on faith, we booked this trip. We knew a lot of walking would be involved and I could not even consider such a thing the past couple years. But here I am, walking away. Per FitBit, Friday I had 15000 steps and Saturday I had 25000 steps. Not sure how many miles that is, but I'm sure well over 10 anyway. It is good to see how other ... read more

Geo: 45.4637, 9.18813Well, our last full day here and it was a good one. We're both pretty sore and tired, feet and backs are feeling like we're old people... Don't say it!Started off rather late as mentioned in the last post and got to the Duomo line for the roof around 12 ish? It was again at the 90-minute wait mark so we went to the Duomo Museum first, rented the audio guide for 6 euros and it was a good museum, pictures to follow. No lines here just walked right in, I guess they're all over in line for the roof top. The tickets to the Duomo were really worth the money I thought, for 15 euros you get into the Duomo, Archeological site, Museum, another small church, and get to ride the elevator to ... read more

Geo: 45.4637, 9.18813Just a quick note, we made it fine yesterday. The great host picked us up from the airport, etc... Will fill in the details later. Where else in the world can you open your kitchen window and eat breakfast while hearing a man sing opera someplace outside? Also, love the church bells ringing at different times! Now a woman is joining in the singing, fantastico! We are about to leave to go see the famous "Last Supper" fresco painting by DaVinci. Loving our adventure after a decent nights sleep, was only up for about 2 hours from 12-2 am but that is par for the course, got up about 8:30 showered and had a good breakfast and we packed a lunch. The plan is to eat dinner out tonight and hopefully finally get a ... read more

-Milano, Tuesday 19th - Friday 22nd July Ciao! From the waters of the Greek islands and white and blue cliff houses, to the city of fashion, well dressed men, and pizza! Milano welcomed us on a sunny Tuesday morning with 36 degree heat and rich, modern buildings. The city has the third largest economy in the EU, after Paris and Berlin, and is the first largest for a non-capital City. This is majorly portrayed through the architecture, the public spaces, the clothing, the sculptures, the cars, and especially the places 'to be', or more so 'to be seen'. One of the first things I noticed stepping onto the street was the high-end shops and the extremely well dressed people - everyone was so proper and smart, and moving 'with a purpose'. Milan is a very walkable ... read more

Geo: 45.4637, 9.1881313th Milano Milano is a very big city and we had a friend of ours, that lived in Nanjing, was back home for the holidays so we met up with her in Milano. We met up in town at the famous book store La Feltrinelli. From there you can see the famous green apartment block Bosco Verticale - green vertical towers is 27-stories high and is the home to the world's first vertical forest. We had lunch at her house and then she took us to a really cool Art Gallery. Biococca Hanger. It was an industrial Work Site that has been transformed into an amazing space. Unfortunately it was closed but the side door was opened so we snuck in. I am so glad we did. There had been a private function the ... read more

We trained into Milan today from the local train station of Olgiate-calco-bivio, we even managed to change from the regional rail system to the Metro Underground. The bonus was the view as you leave the Metro into the middle of the square outside the Duomo, just fantastic. What a vision its pearly-white façade, adorned with 135 spires and over 3000 statues. Very hard to take it all in in the hot of today. We also visited the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele shopping arcade with it wonderful mosaic tile floor and soaring iron and glass roof where we found the World of Leonardo da Vinic exhibition with working models of some of his inventions. Just out the door from here we came across the Ferrari Store (not the car shop just the merchandise shop but Greg sure did ... read more

Monday February 15, 2016 1:45pm - The train arrived in Milan a couple of minutes early, so I got my determination on and headed straight for the metro. I knew where to go, so that was a help. I bought a ticket quickly at a machine and walked down to the platform. The train was just arriving, which was brilliant timing. I got on, sat down, and waited. It was only 4 stops to Duomo, but at the third stop, the doors stayed open and there was some sort of message about it. I couldn’t tell what it was, but thought that it would be so funny if the whole subway broke down now. But it got going again a minute or so later, and it was fine. I got off the train and made my ... read more
