Main Road in RiomaggioreCamera was still in Black and White for most of this day, so I'm going to have to ask you to imagine the pretty pastel colors that most of the houses in these towns were...
So,
We got up at a decent hour, checked out of the Souvenir Hotel and headed via train to the last of the five Cinque Terre towns, Riomaggiore. We had heard from on of our friends who had gone there over Spring Break that there was a cheap hostel there, so we wanted to check it out. We were on the train at 11:30. Well by about 12:00 we had decided we liked where we were staying in Monterosso better than the hostel and the town of Riomaggiore. So, we began hiking back to Monterosso. The hike was about 6 hours of gorgeous sites and towns. We went through all four of the other towns and hiked on a path that wound it's way through the mountains along the coast. It was long, but very worth it. It does make hiking up to my favorit spot in Granada seem like a piece of cake though.
Good thing I've been doing lots of walking around Granada in peparation! lol
So, we got back to Monterosso and headed for the Souvenir to see if they still had rooms. Well, just our luck, they did not. So, I asked
the guy at the desk if they were full for the next day as well. At this point he looked at me and said, "Let me ask the wine man." -Okay, at this point we need to backtrack a little bit to the previous day. Laura and I were heading back up to the hotel after being on the beach to change and we were stopped just outside the hotel by this oder guy who seemed to recognize us. He said something like "Oh, I told you about my wine cellar, you nee to come see it. I let you try free samples of my wine." So, Laura and I kind of looked at each other, and since the guy was already ushering us to his "wine cellar" we went. Turns out the guy makes wine in a shed behind his house. Pretty good stuff too. After all of those wine parties with Monica I could tell it was decent stuff. So, Laura and I backed out as quickly and politely as we could promising to return if we wanted to buy some of his wine at his special wholesale price of 5euros a bottle. - End of side story.
Laura & I This picture was taken with my timer, riht outside the town of Corniglia
So, the guy at the hotel gets up, walks to the door and yells for the "wine man." The wine man promptly comes out of his wine cellar and after a brief disscussion with the hotel guy turns to us and says, I have a room where you can stay. So, he takes us past his wine cellar toward his house, where we meet this little old lady who takes us to a little room on the first floor of the house. The man tells us it will be 20euros a night each and we can stay for the two nights we had left. So we staye with the wine man.
That night we had a picnic on the beach, gelato (again!) and went to bed early because we were exhausted from our hike. End of Day Three.
