So,
Day two started at 6:30am...because we had an 8:10am train to catch to the main attraction of our trip...The Cinque Terre.
A little background...Cinque...Italian for five, Terre...Italian for land. So, literally The Five Lands. And though there is an awful lot of really beautiful land in the area the actual Cinque Terre is five towns. Five "fishing" towns as they're called but anymore they are just five tourist towns. They are built in the mountains along the sea on the Western side of Italy. They're all small and about evenly spaced out along the coast, close enough to hike to and fro, but far enough to prompt the installation of a train that connects the towns.
So, at about 11:00am we arrived in the first of the five towns...Monterosso. It was sunny, warm, and gorgeous. And, they had a beach...what more could you want? Well, we decided we wanted a place to sleep. So, we trekked off in pursuit of a lodging. The second place we went to was perfect...25euros each a night, two beds, shared shower and bathroom, about halfway up the main drag of the town. So, we checked in, dropped our bags,
Mountains and Train TracksMy camera accidentall go switched to B&W during the day, something I failed to notice...so a lot of my pics are in B&W
donned our swim suits, and hit the beach!
The better part of the rest of our day was spent on the beach, only about 4 hours really, because we didn't actually get to the beach until about 2:00. By 6:00 we were hungry and the sun had sunk beneath the mountains shading our beach which left it a little chilly. So, we went to change and find dinner. Again due to the immense choices given we had pizza. lol One each...cause that's how they have pizza in Italy...each person gets their own pizza. But, they're very thin crusted, so not as filling as American pizza. I still couldn't eat the whole thing though! Probably the first person to ever mime for a take-home box for pizza! lol
Afterward we had...gelato! Went for a walk on the beach, discussed the fact that most of the "most romantic" things Laura and I have done in our lives have been with each other, and just had a nice evening. Went t bed early in preparation for day three...The Hike. End of Day Two.

You see that cute Italian looking fellow on the 2nd ridge? No, not the one on the rock, the one with the tatoo that says "I tell lonely American girls that I am a famous Jean designer from N.Y. and L.A. in Pizza shops on my days off." when he turns around it says "And they believe me and write home about it!" That's what I saw first!!
Love you anyway, Aunt Beth
I know you are back in Spain still trying to decipher the coded letter, so where is Day 3 of your Italy trip?? I'm still curious about the pizza boy?? He was probably waiting to make his next delivery!!!!
XOXOXO, Aunt Beth
