June 27th- Start of week 4
Today is the start of the second half of the Rome semester. We started our new class Accounting for Reporting & Control (Professor Gingerella) and Macroeconomics & International Environment of Business (Professor Stodder). I had a great time in my Accounting class. It’s great to finally understand what mother does on a daily basis. I actually enjoy Accounting.
June 28th- We finally had a half a day off. It was much needed. The second half of the day we travelled to Banca Finnat. It is a privately owned bank and we learned how Italian family businesses are run. Even these banks are located in thousand year old buildings with murals on the ceiling gold plated walls etc. I love doing site visits because they always provide wonderful food. Banca Finnat was no exception.
June 29th- We attempted to go to mass and see the pope. We had no luck because it was a Rome holiday. They were celebrating their city saints so they only let in locals. Peter our IBM advisor came to Rome since IBM was closed. We had a great work day, with tons of ideas all over the white board.
Brain storming sessions seem to really help moving our ideas forward. Today Brian and I also celebrated 11 months together. It was interesting since I’m half way around the world. More good news, booked my flights to Barcelona this weekend. Going to travel with Chelsea, Grace, Tony and Ryan and it should be in interesting weekend.
June 30th- Pretty boring day. Had class but had a field trip to a European Union Money exhibit (La Moneta Dell’Italia Unita: dalla lira all’euro. They had the history and timeline of the Euro. They had touch screens and all kinds of futuristic technologies to display their coins and money over the past years.
July 1st- Today we traveled to Barcelona. We didn’t have trouble finding the airport. We meet a man that looked just like the Dos Equis guy. We didn’t have trouble flying to Barcelona either. The hostel wasn’t as terrible as I had thought. All of us shared one room. The city was beautiful. There were lots of entertainers on the streets and little shops as well. The group of us went out and explored the city until 3am! We meet people from all around the world.
July 2nd-
We took the day to sleep in since we had stayed out so late. Later in the day we found the cutest market with tons of local farmers selling goods. It was so colorful and full of excitement. We later found the beach and parked out butts on the sand for hours. It was a topless beach and I had a hard time adjusting. No I didn’t take my top off. We got our hair woven with colorful thread. The ocean was very refreshing. We met so more men from Sweden which informed us of some great night spots to hit up. We all ended up the day with bright sunburns and good memories. We hit the clubs that night and I was impressed. The clubs were beautiful and filled with people from around the world. The businesses were right on the ocean so after a long night of dancing we hit the beach to watch the sun rise. Grace and Chelsea made it but I had to go home because I was so tired.
July 3rd- Today I would like to erase from my memory. Chelsea comes screaming into our hostel explaining to us the she got robbed.
She was covered in dirt. We spent the rest of the day trying to help her through the ordeal. We didn’t feel up to traveling the city so we headed to the airport to find Ryan Air was charging us extra charges. The flight airline was rude and didn’t treat their passengers very well which was only salt to the wound. We were exhausted, pissed and broke.
