Photo 1inside the church is filled with modern frescos, really cool!
Sorry for the long breaks between blogs... its almost impossible to really keep up with all the pictures I take as well as enjoying myself out here. I've needed to put a lot more time in with the children as well as trying to develop more friendships while I'm out here. Put on top of that all the emails and video chats... trying to study more and harder the Italian language... its not easy to find free time to post up all the pics.
I had the privilege to go to an Italian wedding a couple of weekends ago! Other than the fact that it was fairly hot and the Italians don't seem to know what air conditioners are... It was pretty fantastic!
Basically it was the same as what we would have for an American wedding but on a smaller scale, oh and there was no wedding cake! I got to see a lot of handsome men dress up handsomely which was pretty cool although the poor guys looked like they were about to faint from heat stroke. It was pretty funny to see this wave of fans, everyone trying to cool themselves and their friends off.
Photo 2we bomb the couple with rice!!
The actual ceremony was very similar in a lot of ways to a normal wedding, the exchanging of rings... lots of singing... a long sermon by the pastor. They had a beautiful soprano sing during communion and we threw rice on them outside. I think the main difference between an American wedding and their wedding... it just seemed so much more simple and casual. Sure everyone was dressed up but it didn't have that "Its the bride's day" feel to it where everything had to be perfect. It felt more just like a regular party where we all happened to be dressed up.
The reception was just absolutely gorgeous, out in the mountains with lots of trees and softly lit with candles n such. I met lots of friends of Carlo which was a lot of fun because they all have their own personality and they all bring their own flavor wherever they go. Lorenzo, a friend of Carlo's, says to me "Now Laura don't get drunk tonight ok?" and I didn't listen of course. I didn't have to drive and I wanted to have some fun so maybe I had a few too many glasses of wine but
whatever! We danced a little... I caught the bouquet. All the photographers start flashing my like crazy taking a million pictures and I was a little confused at first, but then being quite tipsy at this point I decided to just let it all hang out and I started posing for all the pictures. Apparently if you catch the bouquet you're supposed to get married in a year so we'll see about that, somehow I doubt it though.
I think the pictures speak more about the party than my words can so I'll just leave it up to the pics.
