This last weekend Alyssa's mom and dad were in town so Brittni, Alyssa and I went down to Rome since we haven't yet.... Shameful, I know haha.
But, I absolutely HATED it.
Aside from seeing the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica, and all those other tourist attractions.... Rome was horrible. Dirty. Dirty. Dirty. Expensive. Full of tourists. Crime. Ghetto.
Brittni were walking from Alyssa's parent's hotel after a day of sightseeing to go check into our hotel. We had to walk about a mile and on the way there we were harassed by almost every man that walked by us. There was a legalizing marijuana demonstration going on next to our hotel where a huge truck was bumping crazy rave techno and cracked out people were jumping up and down and stumbling all over the streets, drunk and high out of their minds. The streets were full of trash and in every corner stood a group of sketchy teenagers just waiting to steal your wallet. When we finally reached our hotel (Best Western Mondial) we ran to our room, couldn't get the door unlocked... had to call the bell boy... and laid down on our beds and cried ourselves to sleep at 5pm and didn't wake up again until 7:45 am the next day.
Absolutely Horrible. The history of Rome is so not worth it. None of it is breathtaking. It all costs money to see. Everyone tries to screw you over. The overall impression that I got from the churches and places of worship were just uncomfortable... it's Christianity... but there is way too much idolatry and praise to St. Peter and Mary. It's kind of sickening. And to think that all of these places of Catholic worship used to be the Roman's places of worshiping statues and idols... it's just wrong. You can feel the centuries worth of sin and darkness, and it is still very present in the way that the men there treat women.
Ciao,
Kelley

Kel....can't wait to see pictures of Rome...even though it sounds pretty terrible. xoxoxo
You have to remember that Rome is a big city like any other.
You were hit on because you are young and attractive. Guys do not bother a grandmother-type.
This is the first time I have heard about Rome being so dirty! It is nice that you have a good friend with you to help get through the hard times.
