A day doing nothing
Sorry, but there is not a lot to report worthwhile today as we planned to do nothing and that is the way it worked out.
Apart from a day in Santorini and another at Lake Bled when it rained most of the day we have always been doing or going somewhere. And we promised ourselves that we would throw some ‘doing nothing’ days in as it really isn’t possible to be on the go all the time.
The weather is not nice today either with grey ominous cloud overhead and decidedly cold outside, probably in the low teens. We think the snow that has been falling for the past couple of days in central Europe is having some effect on the temperatures here as the wind is coming from the north.
We have been preparing ourselves for a return to trousers with socks and shoes and after a couple of months of just basically wearing shorts,t shirts and sandals all that might now have come to an end.
The internet is still not working which is a nuisance because we still have some administration things to do and our day of doing nothing by way of sightseeing would have been an ideal day to get up to date with those things.
We hadv a tidy out of our suitcases and a repack to get things back into order because although we are using Kathmandu packing cells odd clothing still finds it way to the dark depths of the suitcase and needs to be put in its place.
Another thing that one accumulates on long trips such as this adventure is,paper.!!Little bits of it by way of receipts we don’t need to keep and brochures we have picked up and have ended up in a backpack. With all this paper consigned to the rubbish bin we will be kilograms lighter and we need to keep that in mind with a little over 6 weeks of the adventure to go when we have to be back to a suitcase and backpack each for the plane ride home.
After lunch we had run out of things to do so we did take a short walk on the road that runs along the top of the ridge for about 2 km again dodging traffic with no pavements to walk on.
As we were leaving our apartment and just about ready to shut the gate an English woman arrived and asked if we were the owners as she and her husband(who was sticking with their rental car around the blind corner)had a reservation for the week.We told we were guests like they were to become but they needed to ring the owner and he would send his sister as he did for us.
After having nothing important to do all day so far we suddenly felt like we were being useful.Amazing feeling after ‘wasting’the earlier part of the day.We guess we felt that way because quite simply we are people who like to keep busy and be doing something useful and productive or helpful.
After ensuring the English couple had made contact and the sister was on the way to let them in we headed off on our walk. For some reason today the road is still busy at 2pm when it is usually at its quietest while the Italian ‘siesta’is on.With the sky still grey and overcast the scenery didn’t look that great and it was more the exercise that we benefited from than seeing what could be seen from the road.
Nibbles and drinks before dinner tonight is indoors as it is just too cold on the terrace and the internet is still not working.
Although we weren’t that tired we hit the sack and watched TV which as it usually does had us asleep very quickly.
