Hi,
Well, I must admit Italy is not quite what I had hoped for and I may leave tomorrow or Monday which is about 4 days sooner than planed. If so, my flight is to Helsinki which does not really have more than a weeks worth to do and is expensive Sooooo... the plan would be to take the one hour hydrofoil ferry over to Estonia where I can live well on 350 elt per day or whatever it is they spend over there. Its something like 30 USD. About a third the cost of Italy or Finland.

Today I saw Pompeii! It takes about 4 hours and is massive. Maybe a mile or more across. Everything is amazingly detailed and decorated. I couldnt believe the level of comfort and beauty for 60 AD. Then you look at the filthy contrast that Napels has become and it just makes you wonder at the decline of society as I watched a 6 year old boy throw empty 1L glass bottles around the city right next to a 500 year old church and monuments in downtown Naples. It is truely sad. You just wonder what has happened to our ethics and values

OK, the this is the theater, the other was a fresco
in the last couple thousand years. I saw a local man get his wallet snatched on the buss the other day and I just cant wait to move on to another city.

Capri 30 min away by boat yesterday was very beautiful and a very different feel, touristy but a nice change. I welcomed it at that point.

I am off to dinner.
Hope you are all well. I miss coversation. It really is the toughest part of doing the trip solo.

When Mt. Vesuvia erupted and covered the city in ash it preserved the city and even the bodies.

each piece of marble in the floor is about .125" square. It must have taken an amazing amount of time to make the mosic and the fact that it has lasted this long is a testament to the quality of the work.

Pompeii
I think they should stop people from going to Pompeii! Everyone talks about how beautiful it is and i agree, but if people keep going there the city will start to fall apart and crumble from the pollution and the machines. And then we won't have the beautiful Pompeii we talk about it will just be some rocks lieing by a road. STOP NOW!
