I was supposed to go down to Pompei yesterday but realised that I have no memory left on my camera. So I spent the day uploading pictures and send them all away.
Took a train down to Naples and changed to local train to Pompei. Naples local train was just so crazy. It was noisy and full of people. Everyone was having their own discussion about something. Half way to Pompei, this girl came on board with an old man and sat down beside me. From the moment she stepped on the train, she was yelling. Sounded like she was having an arguement. Few minutes later, people behind me joined in her discussion gave their opinions. Then the whole train joined in. My lovely experience of Napoli people.
Then there I was Pompei. People everywhere... tourists everywhere. Even the Italians do the tour there. So Sunday probably wasn't really a good day to visit. The fee to go in just Pompei was €10.00 and audio guide I took out was €6.50.
Pompei is a huge place. Nothing like what I saw on TV. It was quite overwhelming to be there and able to see and touch the place.
It was very well preserved. I walked and walked and walked (because it was the only way to see the place) for close to five hours. Still yet, I did not see them all. Forget about giving Ercolano a visit. I was so exhausted by 1530.
So there I was heading back to Napoli. Bought the train ticket back to Roma. I had about just over an hour, so decided to go explore and hoping to experience the famous Pizza here.
Since it was Sunday, a few shops were closed. I think I like Napoli. Everybody is loud and noisy. Say what they want and get what they want. There was a place full of people, so I decided to stumble in and get myself a seat and ordered a Margherita Pizza.
There it was... a big round flat un attractive thing in front of me. I thought that I may have come in to the bad pizza place in Napoli. But since it was there, I had to eat (plus I was hungry after walking around Pompei). And OMG!!!!! I am sure it was not because I was hungry, it was really good!!! The cheese and
the tomato base!!! The fresh basil and the dough!!!! Just perfect!!!
So I chose the right place. Or is every Pizzerias in Napoli are like this??? It was so good that I decided to throw away the knife and fork, and just do like what the locals do, using own hands. I so wanted to order another one, but there was no time left. Also, even though it does not look that much nor does it look very filling, only one pizza does fill your stomach quite good. I will have to come back to Napoli again. And next time, I will order two from the start.
