Jamie at Gatwick Airport
Waiting for the bus to pick us up from the car park and take us to departures
Friday afternoon and we were flying from Gatwick to Napoli. Summer in London has been shocking so we were looking forward to some Italian hot weather.
We sat in the departure lounge waiting to board and Ian Wright walked past! For those that haven't heard of him, he's a well known ex-soccer player!
We arrived at around 9 and took a taxi to the Grand Hotel Europa in the city centre. Taxi was 43 euros, we discovered later it should have been more like 15! Great introduction to Italian driving - almost airbourne on more than one occasion, as we sped along at 140 kph in 70 zone!
Hotel was very nice. We were on the 3rd floor. Unfortunately, the lift only went to the 2nd floor. Feeling quite guilty as the elderly porter struggled with our heavy bags up the stairs.
We sat and had a few Peroni’s in La Cafeteria Bar downstairs in hotel, much cheaper than London at 2 euros each!
Mum requested a gin and tonic and as the barman had no gin he suggested she have the tonic he had just opened with Brandy! Needless to say she didn’t take him up
Us at Gatwick airport
Waiting with all the luggage! on his offer - he still charged her for the tonic though!
Very strange tv show on in the bar - looking at the old variety shows - quite a few topless girls thrown in! Blokes from three men and a leg on advert for ‘Wind’ (mobile phone provider)! Anna we had a laugh at that!
Bed at around 1am
Air conditioning great - till early morning when we had to turn it off due to artic conditions it had created throughout the night.
