So i spoke too soon. I coped a 38Euro fine for leaving my Peugeot parked over night in a no parking zone. Im a little bit suspicious, that no one else who parked along the street didn't get one. Perhaps cause its obvious my Peugeot is a hire car? Anyway, its a small price to pay for the comfort of driving along the Amalfi coast!
Or is it!
Its pretty much a free for all driving on the streets of Napoli. Pick a lane, if not, make one up, swerve in and out, hit a pedestrian, no worries! Red lights? NAHH! go for it!! Once out of Napoli and on the auto strad its a great drive, then brace yourself for the windy roads ahead!
The drive along the Amalfi coast was done at a snails pace of 30km! It wasn't the glamorous image i had in mind, i thought i would be that of James Bond, happily cursing along the coast, windows down, shirt unbuttoned and sunnies on. Instead the a/c was blasting, volume was turned down for concentration, and i was freaking out with all the coach buses that nearly swiped my car!
i was swearing at the narrow spots i almost got stuck in while Vespas where darting in between my car! We had to make a few pits stops, as the ladies where getting motion sickness! Dont blame them, i was sick last year along the coast!
But the drive was defiantly worth it. It was a great experience. We covered Sorrento and Positano in one day, and went back for Amalfi today.
Sorrento was nice, though this time i believe Positano was the nicest out of all the coast. Yes it had your usual throng of tourists, and upmarket prices, and the beach really isn't all that spectacular, but the quant streets of Positano and picturesque mountains are truly beautiful!
I feel like we wasted today a little, we spent the day at the Amalfi and i wonder if it could have been better spent here walking around Napoli or even visiting Pompei. Amalfi was absolutely chockez with tourists! Its lovely, but i think Calabria and Lipari will be more beautiful. I spent the day at the beach while the ladies walked around the shops, the majority of tourists where American and Italian.
The water wasnt even that fresh, i guess Australian beaches really are the nicest!
Fare Augosto is still on, so the Italians are still holidaying. Their all back to work on Monday, so the past couple of days and especially with the weekend coming, the roads have been chaos during peak hour with all the italian returning home. Fare Augosto also means that ALL the dry cleaners in Napoli are closed, (go figure) so we haven't done any washing yet! I've been recycling my undies! Nonna is disgusted and insists on staying in to hand wash everyone's clothes!
Ill be sad to leave Napoli tomorrow and wish we could spend at least another two days here!! Last year me and daniel seemed to cover more sites within Napoli, though this year we've been able to spend more time on the Almalfi coast. Eh!
Me and Maria LampoMaria Lampo is a shop in Positano. This is me and Maria here, i reckon shed be around, 85 ! She opened the shop after the 2nd world war with her husband and earned a reputation creating beautiful tail
