''...the green and troubled land of
tourist brochures and news headlines.''

Quote from: Ireland, A Novel by Frank Delaney

Warmed and cooled by the North Atlantic stream and location respectively, Ireland is never extremely cold or extremely hot.

This celtic isle is stoney grey, rugged mountains, cliffs and dewy greenness. Windswept and misty, you will likely need an umbrella anytime.

From the ring of Kerry to the tatched cottages of Conamera to the Giants Causeway, may the road rise to meet you and may your hassles be small ones.

Ireland has folklore, lively music, dance and haunting ballads. Kiss the Blarney stone and join the locals in one of the pubs which outnumber just about everything for a pint of black and tan, or ten. Then rise up yer skirts and kick up yer heals for a bit of mighty craic with fiddles, harps, jigs and reels.

So here is a short clip of Ireland. We are at Dingle which is on the droopy little peninsula in SW Ireland. The Emerald Isle is green from rain/showers/drizzle/mist/fog/soft days/liquid sunshine all of which happen every day. We had no luck of the Irish as our Ryanair, "The On time Airline", wasn't by an hour and a half out of "Paris" to Dublin. (FU Ryanair) We missed our prepaid/no reimburse bus from Dublin to Shannon literally by minutes. I'm sure I saw it leave. The next bus didn't get to Shannon until after 10 pm, so we changed our rental car [View Full Entry]

Friday 31st July Today is our free day in Dublin and I have passed on the optional tour to Glendaloch in favour of spending the day in Dublin seeing the sights... First stop of the day is Trinity College to see the Book of Kells which is just beautiful and busy but glad I got to go in first thing in the morning as the queue to get in is out the door by the time I get out. Once you see the Book after wandering around the rooms explaining how the books were written and decorated etc, you go upstairs [View Full Entry]

God's own country... Europe » Ireland
Next up we got the ferry to Belfast with the Neesons and stayed with them for a few nights. Joey and I had a great time doing a city tour of Belfast and seeing all the historical sights. We walked the entire length of both the Falls Road (Catholic area) and Shankill Road (Protestant area) to see all the murals. We also went to a photographic exhibition of the last 40 years in Northern Ireland which had some very graphic and moving pictures. While with the Neesons we also spent a night at their holiday house in the picturesque town of [View Full Entry]

Finding my Canadian Marketable Skills The other day, the health inspector showed up at my work to do their routine inspection and they made a comment that we need to defrost our freezer and remove some of the ice that has built up on the sides. Since I usually close the store and when staff close we are responsible for doing any extra cleaning I was given the task of figuring out how to remove the 3 inches thick of ice around the sides of the freezer. I quickly realized that I could use my special Canadian skills and experience [View Full Entry]

Cliffs of Moher
1st Glimpse
We actually spent a good couple of months in Ireland, but only did a little bit of touristing (new word, thanks Garry!). We rented a car for a few days and headed south west to Co Clare and Limerick. We spent a few nights in a small town called Doolin, and while there we checked out the Cliffs of Moher. We got our first glimpse of the cliffs which are pretty impressive. By the time we got to the next lookout platform, in typical irish fashion, the fog had come in pretty thick and fast and we could barely see 1m [View Full Entry]

Glendalough- Glen of Two Lakes On this past long weekend I decided to use one of my days off to take a bus tour around the Wicklow Mountains. The bus picked me up at 9am and took a short drive around dublin before we headed for Wicklow. The driver was really funny and did his very best to get everyone excited for the journey on an early sunday morning. First, we headed to Laragh, which is a small village just ouside of Glendalough. On the way there we drove through Dalkey where Bono lives and another small village where D [View Full Entry]

Doolin, Co. Clare- Great place! We stayed at the Cullinans Restaurant and Guesthouse which was right on a little river for 100 euro/ night for three people. The food was excellent but a bit pricey. Doonbeg, Co. Clare- We found a good B&B, but we missed our chance for it. It was the Whitestrand B&B. So, instead, we stayed at the Dunubio B&B for nearly 120 euro/night. DO NOT STAY THERE. Mary, the owner, was very hostile and the location was horrible. We discovered a pretty good little restaraunt in town though. I cant remember the name of it, but I [View Full Entry]

Been in Ireland for a week and it has rained everyday, well it is called the Emerald isle for a reason. Highlights so far were the giants causeway which was busy but quite impressive, Stayed with Ralph an ex. B&Q colleague in Derry and thought that the walk round the walls of Derry was really good. Saw U2 in Croke park on Monday night which sounded like 80,000 Dubliners singing back their songs to them. The U2 stage show is amazing and has to be seen to be believed. Currently in Athlone and heading west later today. [View Full Entry]

Right, so setting this thing up in the hopes i can stay focused while on the holiday and actually keep a record of my crazy adventures. Party animal that i am, i am preparing everything tonight. But not before i write a list of all the things i need to prepare. Its actually quite difficult to write said list. No pillow, no slippers, no bath robe. Wow we really will be roughing it. I wonder if they have toilet paper on the continent... These posts will more than likely be short and hopefully sweet. They may be bitter. Depends on the [View Full Entry]
