So heres how my next 3 days go...
Day 4- Setting out at an early time of 8 am allowed me to miss all the weekend, Easter traffic. I made good time and managed to get to Tarbert for my 20 min ferry crossing to Killimer. It was nice little break which gave me a chance to have some breakfast. (normally I get too wrapped up in the journey so I forget about eating till my tummy cries out 'feed me!') I drove straight to Lahinch, a little surfing village and walked along the beach. It was a nice sunny day but with a wind chill factor! After spending a few hours there I then drove to the Cliffs of Moher, cliffs at a height of 203 metres (slightly shorter than the next bungee jump I want to do!) It had beautiful views but some how the views didn't look so pretty when trying to walk the cliff edge in strong winds. There were some people posing for their pics pretending they were a bird and about to fly off the edge!!! Jesus, one gush of wind could have easily swept them off their feet. I mean, don't get me
LahinchA little surfig village on the west coast of Ireland
wrong I am one for adventure but not when it comes to being silly!! I was scared for them and prayed I wouldn't witness anything tragic.. These cliffs are well known for the number of marriage proposals and suicides. Apparently not so long ago a Polish lady held her young daughters hand and just stepped off the edge and committed suicide!!! How tragic....
In that frame of mind I then saw a pair of hitch hikers and decided to pick them up. They seemed decent enough but these days you never know.. I still live to tell the tale so they were obviously harmless. It was only a short journey that I took them to as I arrived at my overnight stop at Lisdoonvarna.
I went to the local pub for an Irish stew and some cider! I had a jolly old time meeting people, listening to a live Irish band and loosing count of how many pints of cider I had!!! I met a lovely couple called Brigette and Neil, after the pub we hit the scenes of the local disco... It was hilarious!! Felt like I went back 20 years!! However it wasn't hilarious being ill
all morning and the whole day!!
Day 5- After having retired to bed at 4.30am I couldn't really sleep from being constantly ill. I was trying to figure out how many of those darned pints I had had and to think it was in the region of 9 maybe 10 I suppose I had asked for it then??!! I checked out of the hostel at 10 am and reluctantly set out on my journey, nearly running over a dog, which by the way ran at the wheels of the car... crazy little mutt!! I then saw my hitch hikers whom I picked up again and we travelled to Galway, on route stopping off at the Portal Tomb. I was literally driving with the window open and my head hanging out but once getting to Galway (at 3pm) I finally felt better! I got the opportunity to quickly meet with Helen, my house bud from Sydney, Oz. It was really good seeing her again but it was a shame it was only a brief reunion..
I then had a couple hours journey to Leenane, Connemara National Park my over night stop. I nearly ran out of petrol on the
way as there was not a single petrol station open cos it was Easter. I have to say Connemara National Park was an amazing setting and I wish I had had more time to spend there. I had a surreal encounter with a field of sheep… no not like that!!! See the pics below!
Day 6- After refueling and travelling a few hours I arrived at Sligo town, the home of where the boy band Westlife are from. As it was Easter Monday no where was really open, I just walked around the town and got a bite to eat. Then I got to Strandhill my overnight stop by midday which was nice as I knew I had a whole day ahead of me to chill and no more driving! I walked the beach, air field and church. In the evening I went out for a few drinks with people from the hostel, obviously staying well clear of the cider!!
I have now done the grand total of 670miles in 6 days. I recon its not bad going. I definately feel knackered but look forward to the rest of my trip!!!
Till then!
M xx
normally sheep run away???But these ones even ran (I mean ran... never seen anything like this b4!!) alonside the car while driving off still 'baa'ing. It sounded like they were saying BBBYYYYEEEE!!

Kinda sad that u took a pic of where westlife became famous. Although you were dancing to all their hits in the night club in Lisdoonvarna.
