Well, as the Irish say "What better way ta start da trip but at a Whisky Distillery. The alcohol flowed. The first stop was Kilbeggan. "Kil" Mens church in Gaelic. So "Church of Beggan" I am Beggin for some whisky!!!" Lol. The wife was kind enough to let me sample the local brew.. So did she... Great when ya don't hafta drive. Apparently there are more than 3000 ruined castles in Ireland. I dinna mind ta tell ya. (Thas the (hic) alcohal talkin) truth!. I tried ta drive the car as ya can see, but I dinna have gas. Well, was up wit dat!. So we continued on our tour and hit an old castle called Clonmacnoise. This place was church ruins and graveyards. We saw some recent deadies from 1934, but most were illedgable. We ... read more

So I have finally booked my flight. March 12th! I've still got loads to sort out and get before I leave but I'm finishing work on Saturday so I have a whole week to do everything.... Mosquito net, boots, cancel insurance, cancel nct, get travel insurance, sunglasses.... STUFF!! Mostly though i want to spend that week juggling and hanging out with my friends! I'm gonna miss loads of people and that's a bit of a damper but it's grand because i'm gonna be able to stay in touch with everyone real easily and I'll be back at some stage so it's not as if I'll never see them again. That reminds me.... I need to gather more addresses for postcards and letters! Hrmmmm.... So overall, I am sooooo excited!!! Dying for my ankle to get better ... read more

Right, so setting this thing up in the hopes i can stay focused while on the holiday and actually keep a record of my crazy adventures. Party animal that i am, i am preparing everything tonight. But not before i write a list of all the things i need to prepare. Its actually quite difficult to write said list. No pillow, no slippers, no bath robe. Wow we really will be roughing it. I wonder if they have toilet paper on the continent... These posts will more than likely be short and hopefully sweet. They may be bitter. Depends on the crazy adventures really. Hello. At the minute, I'm working in a stud farm. I have gotten a little weekend work and I working with a bunch of lovely, funny pigs; any money I earn goes on drink. I'm kind of scared about traveling. Well not so much the traveling part. It's what’s in the outside world that scares me. The heat, the roads, the butchers. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited. But scared!!! I'm going to oxygen on my own this weekend. I've options to meet up with others pigs there, but for the most part, it'll be me and my backpack. This should be a nice, slow introduction hopefully laced with lots of swimming in the muck, sunbathing and partying. Wherever. I'm free to roam. That's the beauty of doing it by myself. I will post some pictures ... read more

Ok, just a few short days left to go and we’ve still lots of organising to do. There are always a few last minute things that you forget about, but it will all be worth it when we board the aeroplane on Monday. We've been talking about our trip for so long now and finally it’s just around the corner, we are so excited! Right, the next blog entry you will read will be sent from somewhere in Thailand!... read more

I just jumped in the deep end, and damn!...I lost those floaty things that fit on your arms. In other words...the non-blogger just started a blog. Yep, its a fact. If you feel like you are up to the challenge of sitting through a mound of atrocious spelling, puncuation in all the wrong places, mixed with a little bit of ridiculous grammer and sarcasm then sit back and relax. The good news is that you'll get to hear as many stories as I can type, the bad news is that I've already used spell check. So why start a blog? Well, I'm about to jump on a plane to Tanzania to volunteer with Cross-Cultural Solutions. And instead of emailing everyone (or going through that process where my brain farts and I forget...) with the same story, ... read more

Hi everyone , We have decended on South America and it is soooo hot it is like another world. It was a long journey here so it could be another world but the people look pretty human so i think we are still on earth. The one thing that i was hoping would not go wrong on the journey over was that the TV would not be working. I know you will all say , that if the plane crashed it would be worse but there is no point in thinking about that as i wouldn't be here to tell you that my bloody TV didn't work and worse of all it was so bright it was a light shinning in my face for 12hrs. Ok thats my rant over. The flight was packed and now ... read more

So, the first cheap flight with Ryan Air, the day had finally come! What can I say, Eindhoven airport was small but modern. The Ryan Aeroplane... well, could do with a taste upgrade. They are cheap flights for us, so one can't complain, but for example, the seats do NOT recline, and have no seat pocket. I'm also sure the crambed in as many seats as they possibly could, so not much leg room for me. And the (very bright) yellow plastic on the back of all head rests..... dunno, but I can't recommend taking flights for more than 2 hours with them without needing aspirines for headaches.... The flight was pretty smooth though, not much of a delay. Dublin airport was as I remembered it, so a wee bit chaotic, and the queue at Budget ... read more

0 days, 5 hours, 30 minutes and a few seconds I know that we have all been saying this for the past month or so now but, i cant believe we are actually doing this and i cant believe that it is TODAY that we are doing it!! We have had quite a build up to this day, saying "goodbye for now" for about 2 weeks or so, but we are prepped and ready to go (although judging by Linno's "To Do" list last night id say she is still awake trying to pack) The waiting is finally over! I woke in a panic this morning with a list of final things to do before i set off....this was top of the list! I know, im a bit sad but i wanted to make sure that ... read more

We had to check out early this morning, because we had a long day of bussing ahead to get to our next destination - Castledermot, County Kildare, where we were to stay in Kilkea Castle. Sadly, that meant no free breakfast at the B&B, so we dined on chips and chocolate from the bus station instead. Woohoo! Our bus ride to Cork went off without a hitch (we had to backtrack a little because we had decided on Killarney AFTER we’d already booked our Cork stuff, but it was only 1.5 hours, so not too bad. Plus, it was nice to be back in one of our favourite spots, even if it was only a half hour at the bus station). At Cork, we boarded the bus to Waterford with no problems and both of us ... read more
