Coastal views on the Ring of Kerry

We woke up this morning to a “fry up” (bacon, egg, sausage, beans and tomato) which was well needed after a night on the Ireland town. What started out being a warm up night for new years with a couple of drinks turned out to be 5 or 6……..pints plus a couple of shots. We met up with another couple who were also staying in Killarney but happened to be Americans. A lovely couple who were teaches (English and maths and grade 3). The pub had a band that were playing some traditional Irish music with traditional instruments until 2300 then a live rock bad started to play, At 1200 Rhiannon dragged me home for the early start today. The bus picked us up at 1000 and we started off to the Ring of Kerry. Being in the land of Murphy’s Law, the weather was typical, wet and cloudy which limited some of the views but the views we did see were spectacular. The roads were narrow and sometimes the bus had to stop to let other cars go through as the road was not big enough for the both of them. We stopped in several places around the ring

and had lunch in a small town called Waterville on the west coast of Ireland. The fish and chips there were pretty good. Rhiannon had toasted sandwiches. (That’s for Bek) The average sea temp is 3-4C so we weren’t going to go for a swim. We arrived back at Killarney at 1630 which gave us time to go home and rest a wee while before heading out down town. We went several pubs around Killarney but ended up back in the same pub we were in the night before. We met another couple of Aussies who lived in Melbourne. Rhiannon at this stage had had a couple to drink and talked their ear off. They piked at about 2300. We then met a pommy couple who we bought the New Year in with. The atmosphere at the pub was brilliant with the Irish singing and dancing. We could hardly understand what they were saying, I think due to their accent and the fact that they were drunk and slurring their words. Overall the day was a big one but was great.

Very cold and wet at Waterville on the Ring of Kerry
“fry up”. No hangovers but a little sleepy. Luckily we don’t have far to travel today about 1 hour drive (good planning by Rhiannon). Hope the heads back home aren’t too sore.
