Monday was cold and rainy, even more so than usual. Usually we fight it during the day and go about our business but no one was really into the weather today. It cleared up in the evening so I decided to finally go out with my roommate Serena. The girl likes to go out, unlike the way I like to go out, so we hadn't really spent any wild nights together. Don't get me wrong, she is such an amazing person and we have a great time together. Just not usually for night life. So last minute we decided to go out together with Steph, Katrina, Erin, Anna, and Heather. This guy Alvaro from Spain had just recently moved into the apartment above us all by his lonesome, a really nice guy. He had a group of friends in Galway but he had the apartment to himself so we invited him to come down and hang out with us whenever he wanted. We invited him out that night, he already had plans with his friends but we had planned to meet him sometime that night. We were going to meet him at The Living Room but when we got there the
place was closed, which was surprising. We ended up walking along Quay Street, right up to The Quay Bar, and there was Alvaro and his friends sitting outside. Serena and Katrina stayed outside with them while the rest of us went into the bar to get a drink. There was this absolutely amazing band playing when we got there. It was exactly what people generally expect to see and hear when they go to Ireland. I don't drink much and I didn't want to get Guinness, so Heather recommended this hard cider to me, Bulmer's, and it became my favorite drink on the trip. It's lovely for people who are not crazy about beer. So we went up to the upper level and stood right behind the band to listen. This bar has a lot of different levels but it's all tied together somehow. It's by far my favorite pub to go to, out of the pubs I've gone to. I had gone into this pub later on in the trip and the same band was there which was exciting. There was also a really great set of dancers who came on during their set. Three blonde girls who looked
almost exactly the same. That was weird, but they were really good.
Classes are going really well. With music class we've had some great private performances: concertina, piano, button box, harp, violin, singers. Meabh has taught us a few tunes on the tin whistle which is really a lot of fun. History class has been even better with the great movies we've seen at the Galway Film Fladh. We went to see In the Name of the Father and the man the movie portrayed, Gerry Conlon, was at the showing, which was an amazing thing to see. We also went to see Some Mother's Son, one of my favorite movies, although both are terribly depressing. The class met for a walking tour of Galway City Centre to see the very few remnants of medieval Galway. After the tour Ana, Jennifer and I went to Riordan's for dinner which was really good. A really small but cute place. I love Galway. :)
