I finally feel like I'm falling into a kind of routine here in Galway. We go into Eyre Square almost everyday, sometimes to actually get things done, other times just to walk around. It's so peaceful here, even when the city center is crowded with people. Today me and Anna took the Corrib Village coach into the city center. A woman from Utah was on the coach and we started talking on the way. We ended up just walking around with her for while, making a stop at Java's, our favorite coffeehouse. If there was anything I learned about Anna right away it was that she will talk to absolutely anyone about anything. She loves it. She is the most curious person I have ever met, it's so funny sometimes. After coffee we parted ways as the woman we had met was about to go set up a trip to the Aran Islands. Anna had to pick up the textbook for our History class. After our errands we went back to Corrib Village for a bit.
Soon after that we went to the university to watch a movie for our history class, The Wind That Shakes the Barley. It was one
of the most intense movies about Ireland I had ever seen. If you're into Irish history, watch this movie. Its focus is the War of Independence and the Civil War in the 1920s. It was beautifully made and if you appreciate Irish history the way I do you'll love it. Anyway.....
When the movie was over Jennifer, Jenna, Lauren, Erin, Anna and I went out to McDonaugh's for fish and chips on Shop Street. It was supposedly named the best place for fish and chips in Ireland so I would make a stop there if you're in Galway City. After that we walked around the city center and came across this drum band that we had actually seen on the street in Dublin. It was really different but so exciting to watch. What was the greatest thing about this was that a couple of drunk guys decided to dance with the local homeless men (there were two of those) and made absolute idiots of themselves. I had never seen anything so wild, uncomfortable and so funny with my own eyes. I mean, there was rolling on the ground, clothes coming off, people obviously starting to get offended. Just...memorable. We had
a great time laughing at their expense.
We walked back to Corrib Village and hung out on the playground next to our apartments which sounds cheesy but it always ended up being the place we met up all the time at night. We sang some songs out there, made fun of the other people in our group whom we could see playing drinking games in a nearby apartment. I taught them some of "Rambing Rover," a really funny song I had heard back home. We went into Lauren's apartment and played some card games before going back to the apartment for the night. Ireland, and these wonderfully amazing people, just seem to get better everyday.
