Background: Celtic tribes arrived on the island between 600-150 B.C. Invasions by Norsemen that began in the late 8th century were finally ended when King Brian BORU defeated the Danes in 1014. English invasions began in the 12th century and set off more than seven centuries of Anglo-Irish struggle marked by fierce rebellions and harsh repressions. A failed 1916 Easter Monday Rebellion touched off several years of guerrilla warfare that in 1921 resulted in independence from the UK for 26 southern counties; six northern (Ulster) counties remained part of the United Kingdom. In 1948 Ireland withdrew from the British Commonwealth; it joined the European Community in 1973. Irish governments have sought the peaceful unification of Ireland and have cooperated with Britain against terrorist groups. A peace settlement for Northern Ireland, known as the Good Friday Agreement and approved in 1998, is being implemented with some difficulties.

Bryan fighting jet-lag.
We just had to lay down for a bit outside what we believe is Christ Church (we were too tired to even check the name).
Tempus Fugit meaning "Time Flies" seen under a clock in last night's pub. Hello from Dublin! Wanted everyone to know we made it safely and catch you up on what we have been doing. We left Tucson Monday night (June 26th) after a warm send off and a birthday celebration for Marina. With the storage unit filled to the rim and all our legalities in order (thanks to Dad and Marline) we drove away waiving to the home I've lived in for nine years. We stayed the night in a hotel by the Phoenix airport and made the poor decision of [View Full Entry]

Prayer Requests

Europe » Ireland » County Dublin
There has been a lot happening in my family since I have left the states and now I am asking all of you to keep my family in your prayers! I got an e-mail from my cousin informing me that Hailey, one of the daughters of my cousins Les and Diane, was taken to the children's hospital in Toledo because her white and red blood cell counts are low. She is suppose to get a bone marrow test and spinal tap done, but the family has been told to prepare for the worst, which might mean leukemia. Hailey is only 2 [View Full Entry]

As am Irish American, I could think of no better place to spend my 25th Birthday than Dublin. To be more specific, I spend a great deal of the day wandering around the Guinness Storehouse. For anyone who´s never been to the Guinness Storehouse, its the original Brewery that has been converted into a living museum and churns out the brews it did years ago. On short, its a Mecca for beer. The interior is shaped like a giant pint glass of Guinness and the self guided tour is supposed to take you from the bottom floor up to the sky [View Full Entry]

I've been meaning to start this thing for several days now, and at almost 5:30 a.m. on Saturday morning (Dublin time), I am finally doing so. I shall start at the most appropriate spot: the beginning. Joe and I flew out of O'hare on Tuesday afternoon. Our flight to Philadelphia (with a later connection to Dublin) was scheduled at 4:10 in the afternoon, but when we got there at a couple minutes past 1:00, the nice lady behind the check-in counter informed us that there was an earlier flight leaving for Philly at 1:45. She put us on standby, and we [View Full Entry]

Greetings from Dublin! Okay, first, the vent: We've been here three days, Jesse still has no luggage, My glasses were lost in the hostel locker room, and we were kept up half the night by some kid in our room with the plague! Everything else is splendid. Jesse saw a salamander, so her trip has been fulfilled. She can go home happy. We started the day yesterday by shaking the hand of an 800 year old corpse at st.Michans church, then went to Dublin Castle, the Guiness Brewery, Kilmainham Gaol, and had a great lunch at cafe eire, where we met a [View Full Entry]

Well, another phase of the trip has come and gone. I just saw Mike off to the airport bus and Mat left earlier this morning. At this point I’m feeling like I have put some miles under my feet. From Paris to Montgaillard to Bordeaux to Pau to Biarritz to the Pyrenees to San Sebastian to Barcelona’s L’Eixample, Ciutat Vella, Montjuic, and Barceloneta to Shannon to Limerick to Cork to Killarney to Dublin. I think I’m learning to enjoy the journey and the pleasure of movement, and to relish the expectation of the next destination as much as the memory of [View Full Entry]
