Background: Celtic tribes arrived on the island between 600-150 B.C. Invasions by Norsemen that began in the late 8th century were finally ended when King Brian BORU defeated the Danes in 1014. English invasions began in the 12th century and set off more than seven centuries of Anglo-Irish struggle marked by fierce rebellions and harsh repressions. A failed 1916 Easter Monday Rebellion touched off several years of guerrilla warfare that in 1921 resulted in independence from the UK for 26 southern counties; six northern (Ulster) counties remained part of the United Kingdom. In 1948 Ireland withdrew from the British Commonwealth; it joined the European Community in 1973. Irish governments have sought the peaceful unification of Ireland and have cooperated with Britain against terrorist groups. A peace settlement for Northern Ireland, known as the Good Friday Agreement and approved in 1998, is being implemented with some difficulties.

Hey!

Fall Equinox

Glendalough Ireland
Sacred Site 1
(by Lettie) We arrived in Glenalough searching for our Fall Equinox gathering point. We had only to look out the windows of our Hostel room at Wicklow Way to enjoy views of beautiful fall-changing trees, admire the greenest grass and appreciate lovely hills all around us. It was my burden of joy to locate a place in all that lush beauty, one that would serve all of us, and yet allow for our individual expression/needs. Our focus was on "transformational forces". My understanding of this is that we have requested Life/God/Spirit to allow us opportunities to view our pains, sorrows, [View Full Entry]

(by Lettie) I am aware that there are times that a friendship or relationship has turmoil that is does not survive intact. I would hope that everyone realizes that what is missed is a "point of connection" not a loss of love or caring for each other. Kim and I, as well as the other girls, agreed that we would consider this journey to be a sacred one that would serve all interests. That said, what is different from past adventures together is that this one is focused on my journey and subject to agreements that benefit me as well [View Full Entry]

(by Becky) Just as our adventure began , one of our sisters, Kim departed. She chose a different experience, one I hope she will be pleased with but I wonder what our experience would have been had she stayed. I accept & acknowledge her choice. I move ahead with mine, loving her always. Best Wishes, Kim Love Becky [View Full Entry]

Kim at the Pub
(by Terrie) I have greatly missed our Dear Sister, Kim. I now comprehend the spiritual process of immersion with every thought, action, feeling, impulse, distortion, assumption being brought out into the open in a healing group-dynamic. This process requires a great deal of courage and trust. I wish that I could have shared myself with her through the challenges, the trials, the wins, moodiness, the tears, the triumphs - all being tributaries to this winding road called transformation, with my beloved sister, whom I miss. St Kevin's Monastary
St. Kevin's Monastery, Glendalough September 21st (by Terrie)The ancient and hallowed grounds of the monastery & cemetery of St. Kevin's was stunning. Amidst Celtic High Crosses and time-warn tombstones, whose beloved inscriptions have eroded with passage & centuries, stands the monastery pure & true. The architecture of the abby speaks of a time before windows and of a time before gothic arches. Its humble and precise masonry yields and enduring testament to medieval life. It's easy to imagine the human experiences had in this place; with the pristine greenery of tree & moss, [View Full Entry]

Fact: Matthew McConaughey knows how to Irish dance I traveled to Dublin, Ireland on September 18th with six other girls. yikes. Traveling with that many girls turned out okay... haha! Anyway, we flew to Dublin and got to our hostel, Litton Lane. The seven of us stayed in a 10 person room. One of the beds was occupied by a Turkish man who wore striped pajamas... interesting. There was also one other girl who I mistook for one of my friends the next morning without my glasses on and said hi to her with my teeth-grinding mouthguard in and needless to [View Full Entry]
