This morning I woke at a nifty time off 9am. Skipped the shower (they where in a terrible state) and headed out into Dublin. I confirmed my bus at the station and headed out into the city off Dublin. I guess I'm just not used to huge citys but I don't like them. You have to scale 4 blocks just to see 1 thing. I mainly saw a ton off shops, only a few monuments before heading back to the bus. The city seemed cold and everyone kept to there own... much different to the small towns I visited in the country... then again I was only here for a few hours!
The bus departed at midday, expected to get to Cork at about 5.30. Theres not really much to say about the bus trip. I spoke with a few Irish girls about what its like living hear; there accent is so cool I would marry an Irish bird anytime. The bus came into Cork on time from where I did one last look around before getting to the airport with a few hours to spare. If I thought my trip was over I was wrong. The plane departed at
9.25pm expecting to arrive at London at 10.40pm. That all looks good on paper but what I didn't realise was that from the airport to London was 45minutes then from London to Watford was another 25minutes. The last train journey as far as I was aware was at 11.59. Meaning that every train/subway I would catch I would have to hope that there was one more running.
When I landed I sprinted out, got my baggage. Due to the delays with baggage I missed the first train into London. 11.15pm was the next meaning I would arrive at Liverpool St Station at Midnight from where I would need to find a subway to London then hope a train is still running to Watford otherwise I'd be stranded in London for the night!
I met a german girl on the train to Liverpool St who told me to just run and follow the Western Line. I didn't know what that meant but when I got off the train I ran... and followed the signs to the western line and sure enough with less than a minute to spare the last train to London was leaving. It wasn't over yet,
there are 2 stations in London. The subway station and the main railway. I needed to sprint to the main railway (about a block) in hope that there was one last train. As soon as the train arrived at the subway I sprinted with my backpack n all to Londons big station, it was 12.30AM and I DIDN'T want to be facing a night on a London street corner. When I arrived everything appeared shut . Rollers where down and a few people where sleeping on a bench. I found a corner door and went in... there was 1 train left on the Departures which was leaving in less than 5 minutes. IT WENT PAST MY STOP!! I sprinted through the deserted station and found the train sitting there. I made it with a few minutes to spare. I was so so lucky.
When I arrived in Watford I still had a 45 minute trek to make to get home. My back was screwed and I was exhausted but oh well... a funny mini adventure to end a good experience. I arrived home at 2am. When I went to my room I had a ton off mail! It was
like christmas! Since I was gone my new pair of shoes arrived, my bank account has been opened and my debit card has been approved. All is well... this trip has taught me a lot... when I head off backpacking for a lot longer in a month or so I know that eating healthily is a must and that I must plan to be in places for longer! To much bus trips hurt the human brain!
~~keep walking
