After spending 2 weeks in Cardiff with family, and waiting for my credit card to arrive in the post i finally booked a couple of flights to get out and about again. First stop Bristol for one night, not for any particular reason, just that my flight to Dublin left from there, so i thought i may as well stop for the night and have a bit of a nose around! Not much to report, I'm sure there's more to see, I just didn't! I had a wandre around the harbour area which is quite nice, and then up to the University and the Museum. The hill up to the uni is kinda cool, really steep with old buildings as shops and cafes lining the street. One of my favourite things is a bit geeky, but i loved my bed in the hostel!! It was like bunks on a ship, wooden with the man holes either end! Kinda cute😊
Annnyway! I flew out to Dublin, Southern Ireland, Euros in hand. My hostel was nice right across from the bus station Busarus, caled Jacobs Inn. It was really nice and new, but not to social for someone travelling on their own,
quite a few schools groups. But i did start making friends a couple of nights in, and hearing so many different stories of what people were doing, made my trip seem so tiny and even less scary!
Dublin is a nice city, lots of realy impressive buildings. The main street O'connell street made me feel a little at home, as my mum's from the large O'connell family in wales. I never realised that the names here are so strong, O'Connel =Irish, Davies=Welsh. They are both very prominent names and i felt where ever i went family had been there generations before me at some point.
Dublin is also a very fast paced place. It felt like everyone was in a rush, and at one point on a big pedestrian street i can't remember the name of, i was caught in a wave of people, not able to stop walking or get to the side of the street to stop!!
I went to the Trinity University, which puts my uni back home to shame!! It was incredible, the buildings were beautiful, and so old! Cobblestones paths went all the way through, and it still amazes me that there were
students wandering through on their way to lectures! Te book of kells lives at the uni, extremely old book with accounts of events and...well stuff. It had a really old library with shelve after shelve of amazing books. One on display i read was by a man who first documented animals, descriing them all and drawing them, lots of Australian animals in there too!! Yes I'm a nerd deep down!!
Then the biggest choice of my stay in Dublin, GUINESS or JAMESON WHISKY?? I figured since i like whisky i would go there! and i got picked as a tester too so after the tour, myself and 5 others tested 5 different whiskies and then had a glass off Jameson on the house! I've been told it's not cool to drink on your own...but i figured i was on a tour with 20 others and would adopt them as my friends for an hour!! I then wandered up to phoenix park, which was huuuuge and very beautiful with so many different coloured flowers! Then came the zoo. Now I'm a bit biased but i thought the zoo was fantastic! but thinking about it now some of the enclosures compared
to home were a bit...well not as good! But who doesn't like looking at monkeys jumping around:P
I went up to see Martina in Dun Laoghaire, and it was the first place i heard a really strong Irih accent. Couldn't understand half the people!! Martina and her friend took me shopping and the centre was huge! Then on our way back we found a random euro fair and went on a ferris wheel! Great fun, nearly froze!! The next day Martina was of to Dominican republic, so her aunty Mary took me out in the car with her friend who was visiting too, around the countryside. They started using the satelite navigation, but bless the device it just couldn't find whee we were going and kept having to recalculate every 5 seconds!
The country side was beautiful, rolling hills with bright yellow flowers called rapeseds, which smell like coconut! That night i was treated to a first...the greyhounds! Mary and her friend Mary, and myself had great fun, i think i won a total of 5 euro, but not too sure how much i spent!! Mary won 20 euro on one race!! I'v much to learn...
