Dia Diut!
My vacation this year began in Dublin, where I was met by a pretty cool city, with loads of bars, lots of beer, decent food, and mediocre weather.
I met my family at the cozy hotel, and went straight out for the city tour. We saw the Spire (a crazy 120m high needle), the beautiful bridges over the River Liffey, and checked out Temple Bar area which is the shitty touristy Irish-pub area of town. Most of the restaurants there had Eastern European girls out front trying to draw people in to eat there... "verrry niice trrraditional Irrrrish rrrestaurant. Please to come in and eats. I liike." Not fer me.
We wandered the cobble-stoned streets of Dublin 2 hours (while sightseeing a bit) and found ourselves a hip little restaurant bar where the locals go for happy hour, Dakota. The food in the restaurant was actually amazing, contrary to what everyone had warned of me. I had amazing fish'n'chips with a Guinness. Felt good.
It was good to be able to meet up with cousins Stephanie and Joel, and meet mom, dad, and Mel (who I flew in with).
Slancha!
Cousins in DublinStephanie from Philly and Melanie from the Bay are just relaxing and enjoying Dublin. I haven't seen Steph since her wedding 4 years ago, daaaaamn..
Cock RockThis traditional Irish Band on the streets of Dublin (d)evolved into a groin solo. The violinist put the bow between his legs and soloed by humping his violin. Art!
A Hip Bar in DublinI ate dinner at a joint called Dakota, across the street was another place for the indie crowd.
