Laura and I were up and at breakfast right when it started at 8:00, after eating quickly we checked out and headed to the train station to find out about the train/ferry to Dublin. We found out there was a train leaving a different station at 9:10, if we got a cab we could just make it. So, we bought the tickets and took off for the London Euston Train Station. We made it with about five minutes to spare. So, we were on our way to Dublin. The train got into Holyhead, Wales at about 1:30 pm. We boarded the Ferry and were headed to Ireland at about 2:15. Arrival in Dublin was around 5:00pm. After checking into the Isaccs Hostel for 18euros each we headed out to see what we could do before bed. We found an internet café and let everyone know we were alive and okay…that’s when I posted my last post! After that we walked around and ended up at Burger King for dinner, I know, I know, but it’s been my first “fast food” since leaving America…so I’ve done good! It was really good! lol We got little kid’s birthday crowns…I have pictures!
An Irish LighthouseFor My Aunt Nina! This lighthouse marked the entrance to the Irish Port...I also took pictures of like three others I saw, but this pic is the best!
So, one of Laura’s friends had been in Dublin a couple of months before now, and he told her that if she went there we had to find this little pub to have a Guinness in. The name was O’Sullivan’s, and all Laura knew was that it was on “the other side of the river by a steeple” Well, with those excellent directions we set off. We didn’t even know which side of the river was “the other side.” Well, Laura decided to take a chance and ask someone, so she stopped a lady and asked if she knew the place. Well, as luck would have it she did. So, after about 5 minutes of standing there and talking to her on the street we set off to find the place. It was “o’er the bridge and straight on until you reach da fork in da road. Den you’ll want de fork to da right, go on about, oh, from here to that light’s distance, and it’ll be on ya right.” Well, her directions were right on! We found the place…O’Sullivan’s Pub, with a live, bald, guitar player…just as described to Laura without any problems! So, beingst we were in
Burger King! So, I went to Burger King in Ireland and wore one of the little kid crowns...just admit it, you're jealous!
Ireland, Laura and I split a Guinness…Not that either of us are beer drinkers…but when in Rome, right? lol After sitting there and listening to the Irish guitar player play everything for Irish folk songs, to Johnny Cash’s Fulson Prison Blues, to U2’s With or Without You, we decided to head back to the hostel for the night so we could get up early and sightsee the next day.
Street PoemA guy wrote this on the sidewalk in Dublin...then of course wanted money, I thought it was cool so I stopped to take a pic, and then gave the guy like 20 cents for his trouble!
