Hey Everyone! It’s me again! My apologies for not “blogging” in a while (sounds so gross when I put it that way). So how are we? Everyone swell? I sure hope so. We’ve just finished our second week of children’s theatre classes. We’re actually quite relieved that we had any enrollment at all. Since we’ve been out, it seems the recession has everyone in a standstill and people are picking their jaws up off the floor at how quiet this place is. Slowly but surely, people are coming on holiday and filling the town in…phew. And now Baltimore is booming as expected, just much later than usual. The kids are so very cute and having fun in our classes. Every morning Kenny and I step out while it’s still misty and “soft” as they call it ... read more

Wowzers, it has been awhile since I've updated ya'll on my adventures! I found my checkcard once I made it to Cologne where I had the time of my life. My host David was highly busy with making artists famous (he owns his own record producing company), but still found time to show me around the town. I had some troubles adjusting to their public transportation, but it all worked out in the end. I met up with some Canadians i met in Berlin and tried some jellied pigs head at one of the 5 breweries we hit up my last night in town (he invited me to stay an extra day). My stay in Koln was rather relaxing as i had David's flat to myself the entire time. I convinced him to purchase a WeFest ... read more

So we're wrapping up our time here in Cork, and it's been pretty good so far. Thursday we did the most touristy thing ever - we went to Blarney Castle and kissed the Blarney Stone. It's kind of the most bizarre experience ever. You sit on the ground on the top floor of the castle, then an old man holds on to you and you hold on to a bar on either side of you. Then you lean back as far as you can and put your lips on the spot where millions have before you and where locals are rumoured to pee. And now I apparently have "the gift of the gab". Or good luck. I'm not even sure. Yesterday we took the bus to the seaside town of Clonakilty, which is one of your ... read more

Hi Everyone, So I've been a bit bad with posting, but I have a good excuse, which is that I've been too busy having an awesome time! I think my last post was from Glasgow, so to bring you all up to date, I've since been to Edinburgh, Belfast, and Rathdrum, and now we're in Cork. Everything's been really great so far. There are five of us - Laura, Heather, Nina, Sophie, and myself - and this is the third leg of our Tour de Ireland. We took a bus on Sunday from Belfast to Dublin, then connected with a bus from there to a small town called Rathdrum (don't worry, we're not skipping Dublin, we're just saving it for the end). Rathdrum's your quintessential Irish small town, with one main street, a disproportionate number of ... read more

Hello again, we are just getting ready to leave our hostel in Cork. Chelsea and I have been talking about how much fun it would be to open a Bed and Breakfast someday in Seattle. We really enjoy the B&B experience, and think it would be fun from the other side too. Besides, I like to cook breakfast and Chelsea is a compulsive cleaner! We were thinking of combining the B&B idea with another of our ideas...to retire (in 30-40 years) to a little houseboat on url=http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&q=lake+union,&near=Seattle,+WA,+USA&fb=1&sa=X&oi=local_group&resnum=1&ct=image Lake Union . Then we could have 2 rooms available to guests, and when our kids want to come visit we'll only charge them 1/2 the normal rate, hahaha! Good idea?... read more

Wow, what a trip we have been on the last few days! We managed to hitch rides out of Limerick (we caught a bus to Limerick from Dublin) on the 12th I think. We made it to the town of Dingle, which is super cute. But one of the fellows who drove us part of the way was a tour guide in the Dingle penisula. He told us we should go to the Blasket Islands off the town of Dunquin. So the next day we hitched there because the busses wern't running. We caught a water taxi accross with the intention of spending the night on this deserted island with it all to ourselves. However there were a couple of 'Grand' Irish girls camping there. They invited us over for some drinks and we took them ... read more

July 10, 2008 Another great (but long) day in the saddle. We biked the Sheep’s Head Peninsula, on a day full of sunshine, from Bantry along the north coast of the peninsula and back up the south side (for the first time the prevailing wind was at our back). The name was appropriate today as Nanci had a run in with a sheep in the middle of the road. This was the first time we had to load our bikes into the van to go up the mountain. It rose 325 meters in 1.5K, so was a bit steeper than we wanted to attempt. The 10K trip to the end of the peninsula from Kilcrohane was a bit challenging also with the need to walk about 1.5 to 2K to get to the lighthouse at the ... read more

July 9, 2008 We had another day of great biking. We did about 75 kilometers today, but the hills while a constant companion were not as steep as yesterday. We only had to walk the bikes one time. Another Irish biking tradition we observed today was biking in the rain. Most of the afternoon it was alternating between rain and sun. The tour we are on does a very good job of keeping us on less traveled rural roads, which is nice for not a lot of traffic but the roads are hardly wide enough for one car let alone two cars meeting or a car passing a couple of people on bikes. The redeeming factor is everyone is very aware of people on bikes and they always make way for them, to the point of ... read more

July 8, 2008 Dinner at the castle was very entertaining. We were treated to a cup of Mead as we entered and were seated in the Great Hall. The madrigal music was delightful and we were all lords and ladies for the evening. The castle had a formal Victorian garden which was lovely, but not as impressive as the grounds in Bunratty. Dinner gave us the opportunity to get to know our trip mates and guide. One couple is from Connecticut and the other is from Phoenix. Our guide is from Amsterdam. On Monday we visited Blarney castle in the morning-another beautiful setting with gorgeous grounds. Of course we both kissed the Blarney Stone. Now we will be eloquent and have the gift of gab (Something Nanci really was lacking). Monday afternoon we got on our ... read more
