I slept in today! It was delightful to actually get sleep. Katie had a Hen Party (Bachelorette Party) last night so I didn't really set my alarm. I knew she'd tell me after she got up. On the way to catch the bus, I bought a thin zip up hoodie to later with-downside of packing light! Penny's (not to be confused w/ JC penny's) is inexpensive & had some nice sales. That's the best thing of hitting Europe at this time are all the sales!
Today we went to Blarney. After stopping into a souvenir shop w/ a lovely woman and some Irish lace, we walked on down to the Castle. Of course our first destination was the Castle/Blarney Stone. It was neat to see what used to be and a good use of imagination. We had to climb a super steep & narrow passageway of stairs up the castle. As we went up, the stairs became steeper and smaller. Clearly not built for someone of my stature. In some areas like the caves, which we explored very little of, I would have been doing a crab walk thru. Maybe that's where the Leprechauns lived. Great view from the top of
the castle. One side a herd of cows. Other side the Blarney House. In case you aren't exactly sure how kissing the Blarney Stone works, you lay down, grab 2 metal bars to hold yourself with and slide down to kiss the stone while someone holds you at the hips/waist to secure you. Pretty cool! Also, the difference between blarney & bologna. Blarney is believable. Bologna is way too over the top. Blarney- how old are you because I want to know the age of perfection. Am I full of Blarney now?
After the Castle, we walked more of the grounds, while we saw beautiful gardens and the exquisite Blarney House, we also saw the dungeon, murder hole & poison garden! Quite a juxtoposition going on there!
We sat to eat at the stable before heading over to the Wool Mill shop. Loved it there. Bed linens were gorgeous with Irish lace, the sweaters, scarves, blankets, socks, etc. were very pretty as well. I am always impressed by woven articles. I left with a long zip-up hooded sweater in maybe an oatmeal color. It's wonderful!
Quick little bit of shopping & we took the bus back to city center and
then had to wait a bit to take the bus back to our house. Was a nice day finished off by fish & chips and some tea & biscuits. I'm going to start calling cookies biscuits so I can eat them with every meal.
Tomorrow Katie's friend gets married in Ballycotton. It will be a very interesting experience I am sure! Sunday is our last full day here before we embark on our crazy trip home. Cork-London Stanstead-London Heathrow-Chicago-Buffalo-Rochester. One one hand I want to remain on 'holiday', on the other hand, I'm tired! It's so much fun traveling, but staying in cities for 3 nights or less for a period of 2 weeks means that we are constantly going places and usually at a good pace to pack the most in. It's thrilling though!
