Well it's finally time to dust off the backpack and hiking boots. Greg and I are leaving Thursday for a short two week stint in Iceland. It's not the most convenient timing because we're also in the process of buying a house. Needless to say, it's been a little hectic trying to balance our time calling home inspectors and researching the logistics of Icelandic camping.
Anyway, we're psyched for the trip and excited to get our minds off the house, which isn't exactly the most stress free experience of our lives. On Thursday, we're actually planning on meeting up with Tim in New York before we leave. I met Tim and his friend Tom (both English) in Bangkok last year and have been following their never-ending travels online ever since.
We're flying into the capital, Reykjavik. We found some Couchsurfers there who are turning out to be an absolute godsend. First, they're hosting us for three nights, which is going to save us about $90 each. Secondly, we asked their advice on how to best approach the sky high car rental prices. Turns out they happen to have an extra car that they're willing to rent us for $40 per day. These people are literally going to save us over $1,000 in total. Have I mentioned in these blogs before how much I love Couchsurfing?
So the plan is to check out Reykjavik, see what this world renowned night life has to offer, do the golden circle tour, etc. Then we'll leave the city and head up to the Westfjords, which I think has the best scenery in the country. Then we'll get back to the mainland and drive clockwise around the 800 mile Ring Road back to Reykjavik. We have nothing booked and no idea where we're going to sleep and that's the way we're going to keep it. Possible adventures that we might get ourselves into: dogsledding, ice diving, glacier hiking, maybe an ATV tour. We don't really know yet. Stay tuned in the next three weeks.

Have a great time man. I gotta get in on the next trip, need to diversify my travel outside of continental Europe. I think I'll be in Jersey the weekend after you get back, so hopefully see you then. Enjoy.
