After yesterday, it was nice to have a quiet day. I checked out of the hotel, stored my luggage and went down to check out Wawel Castle. It was an easy walk, but the weather is so cold and windy. Looking at the weather online, it was a high of 40 and low of 34. I didn't have a lot of time, so looked around the courtyards of the castle, finding what's called the Lion's Den. It is a small spiral staircase that goes down the castle and leads to caves. It reminded me a lot of the Ape Caves in Washington. Luckily I didn't have to walk back up the stairs. I was on ground level, so headed back to the same restaurant I went to last night for more borscht. Had a pork cutlet and fried potatoes to boot.
The trip to the airport was rather uneventful. The drive spoke no English and dropped me at the wrong terminal, but that was an easy fix with a brisk windy, blustery, cold walk. No problems. Had a quick flight to Warsaw, couple hour wait, and then about one hour into Budapest. I had been very sternly warned about taxis
here in Budapest, so made sure to get in the que for the approved airport taxis so as to not be gouged on the price. We drove over the Chain Bridge on the way to the B&B. I remember being so unworldly when I moved to San Francisco that I couldn't wrap my mind around the fact that the Golden Gate Bridge was not just photo worthy, but also for daily commuting. Wow, I was shocked. Sigh. I hope I am a bit more worldly now. It was, however, great to drive across the Chain Bridge at night and see the lights. I am looking forward to seeing a lot more of Budapest.
The owners of the B&B are great. They took quite a bit of time to show me all around the place, explain things and again warn me to watch out for my passport, money and just anything that can be pick pocketed. THey also pointed me to a nice restaurant not far from the place, so I had a great dinner of Hungarian Fish Soup, and Chicken in a Paprika Cream with Noodles which turned out to be homemade spaetzle. Was nice. Heading to bed here
soon. Need to get a heavier coat tomorrow. It is just as cold and windy here. Looks like winter has arrived with a bad temper.

Hi B, looks like no matter where you travel the weather turns rather bad. Sorry I couldn't be there at the airport to pick you up. At least it wasn't snowing like crazy! That type weather makes the soups taste even better, but, I would have to really make an effort to eat fish soup. Guess I have had too many drinks on Lake Erie out of the same cooler that the fish where kept in :-)
Enjoy your trip and keep taking those pictures.
Ted
Hi Brendan-Are those fish swimming in that soup? Weather is about the same here! Ugh
Hi Cheri, Yup, those are fish in the soup. Catfish to be exact (I asked) They were more floating than swimming thankfully. lol
