Perissa

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Santorini
Didn't have a brilliant night's sleep, so we were both pretty tired this morning. We weren't 100% certain what we were going to do today, particularly when we walked into town and it was sooooo windy. I was constantly getting grit and dust in my eyes, so it was hell for Beck with her contacts in. Over another gyros we decided to stick to our original plan and head to Perissa. We had to wait a little while for the bus to Perissa, but it must be said that the buses in Greece are very reliable and comfortable. Each bus has [View Full Entry]

Meteora

Europe » Greece » Central Macedonia » Thessaloniki
The land of the monks, large majestic rocks capped with monastries to explore. You can see what why they placed themselves here but how is another question. They must feel like eagles in their nests, viewing the wonderful mountains and scenery all around them, this is truely a place in which to contemplate our connection to God and the Earth we live upon.... I woke up and it was still dark. Checking my phone for the time it said 05.15, so I grabbed the camera and headed for the rooftop of the building to see if the moon was still out. It was a pretty impressive sight seeing the moon go down in the exact same fashion as the sun had only a few hours earlier. Hopefully the photos turn out ok. I headed back to bed for some more sleep before the alarm went off for breakfast. We took our breakfast on to the roof and admired the view once more before going [View Full Entry]

The car had to be back by ten, but we didn't get up in time to do anything much with it. We were satisfied we had seen everything we had too anyway. The family who runs Hotel Grotto is so nice, and even though we have only stayed one night we are so impressed by how friendly they are. Part of our stay was a complimentary breakfast, and wait for it - they had cereal. It was by far the best breakfast we had had in Greece, and my muesli fix was just what the doctor ordered. There was also natural [View Full Entry]

In amongst the modern...
Athens does not appeal to alot of people due to the hustle and bustle of the place but it is definately worth a stop over to visit the Acropolis and the Ancient History that you can feel there. [View Full Entry]

Fast min rastlösa själ vill vidare, tyckte stoppet i Prishtina blev väl långt, men i Thessaloniki hade jag gärna stannat längre.

Naxos

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Naxos
At breakfast we grabbed Mark's details, as we are heading for Naxos today. In Mykonos we love all the little alley ways with the trendy shops, not that we can afford any of the stuff we like. There are so many gold and jewellery shops, but to us it doesn't seem like the locals wear much jewellery. The locals always seem to be painting everything white, and the buildings are so bright in the sunshine. We are glad we came to Mykonos at this time of year, as in summer it would be crazy. Hotel Marios gave us a lift to [View Full Entry]

Pink is the in colour!
Pink is the in colour!
Don't you hate it when you go out, and someone is wearing the same shirt.
We got up at nine for the complimentary breakfast, which consisted of eggs, cup of tea, bread and spreads. We met Mark who is from California and has just retired, and is making the most of it. After breakfast we went for a walk around Mykonos Town, we were still hungry so we ordered some crepes from a little cafe, they were nice, but they were also expensive. We continued our expedition of Mykonos Town taking in the sights of the windmills and Little Venice. There was a pelican that was wearing pink to match my t-shirt. It was still windy, [View Full Entry]

Slower ferry
Slower ferry
The scene just off the ferry is one of chaos. There is traffic police blowing whistles trying to direct traffic, and they have their hands full to say the least.
Surprisingly we both slept well. I got up early to ask about ferry times to Mykonos, as this was our planned first stop. Unfortunately, but luckily as it turned out, we just missed the ferry to Mykonos. The guy on reception said to come back and see him at nine o'clock and he would send us to a friend of his who sold cheap ferry tickets. We went to Adrianos Travel and learnt that if we had have caught the ferry to Mykonos, our further travel plans would have been limited as it isn't the peak season and therefore not all [View Full Entry]
