Day 26: 21st. July: GREECE: MYKONOS: Temp 29C: Today after another delicious early breakfast it was onto the tender and over to the Island of Mykonos where we went on a tour around the hot, dry and barren island with many nice looking hotels - stopping at the beautiful Kalafatis and Ioannis Beaches where we had time to paddle in the cold water before visiting a Monastery, Ano Mera village, then walking through the narrow streets of the town, up to the windmills and through Little Venice.
Days 27 - 28: TURKEY
Day 29: 24th. July: Week 5: GREECE: ATHENS -CORINTH: Temp 34: Today was full of expectations - a tour through Athens then a climb up the steps to the top of the Acropolis to see the Pantheon, a temple dedicated to the virgin goddess Athena; the Erectheion, a temple to honor Athena and the sea god Poseidon; and the Porch of the Caryatids where columns of marble maidens support the roof of the temple. In the distance we could see the Philopappas Monument. Back into the coach for the drive to Corinth with views of the Saronic Gulf. We had a lovely buffet lunch including wine, then

made our way to ancient Corinth Museum, past the Temple of Apollo then into the ruins where we spent time in the shade as the guide talked on and on. Admittedly it was more than hot so we moved to the shade of another tree while the guide kept talking I wandered off to have a look at some of the ruins and actually walked on the Lechaion Road shortly before everyone headed back to the coach. Onto the Corinth Canal, a 19th. Century engineering feat 6,343 metres long, 25 metres, its depth 8 metres and the earth cliffs flanking it reach a maximum height of 63 metres.
