I started off in Athens. I traveled with 2 classmates and stayed with a super nice friend of ours. We went out at night. The next morning, we were out to the Acropolis, took the long way and it was awesome. Bright white walls and houses with bright blue designs, a common characteristic of Mediterranean households and architecture. Bright magenta flowers adorning the streets, falling over the walls. I kept stopping to take photos of everything I saw. The higher up we got the better the view of mountains, hills, old temples, agoras... We finally made it up, and there was a lot of construction going on to support the marble. Not many signs that indicated who's temple I was standing infront of... Finally we made it down, tan, and a few pounds lighter from the hiking. We sat at the first restaurant we spotted to get our Greek salad and frappa fix. I never ate enough Feta cheese while I was there, and I ate a lot of it :). Finally we spend the other days sight seeing other monuments and areas like Zeus' Temple, The Olympic Stadium, agoras, museums, ect. Then we embarked on our first island trip. 6
hour bus ride across Greece to the Ionian coast. Once we got off, we went to catch our ferry to Zakynthos. We came here for the beaches, but soon realized that this island only functions with the help of tourism. The buses weren't running, so the only method of transportation were taxi's. Which tend to add up. We tried to rent a car, but their automatics weren't ready yet. So I went around asking about ferry tours and we were about a week early before they began to run in late May. I decided, I wanted to see the rest of Greece and not spend my days on an island that was a bit...disabled. I parted ways with my classmates and took the bus back to Athens. Athens, isn't the safest city, one must be careful. It's not dangerous. But Greece is still a progressing nation. I learned a lot about the pressing religion and the schooling through the friends I made there. The nicest people ever! So I stayed in went to bed early, and got up at 4:30 AM. Still dark out. And went to the port of Pireaus. We I took my ferry straight to Santorini. I
IOAOne of the sweetest citie's in Greece... Great Pastry shops and MAGNIFICENT VIEWS.
decided Santorini had everything Mykonos would have and more. I saw hott springs, volcano craters, black sand, red beaches, rode a poor donkey up 300 large steps, HIKED up another hilled city to find an ATM (which there weren't), and rode in the back of a motorcycle without a helmet. Quite the experience Santorini was!
Finally, I headed back to Athens, to catch a plane! Took me a few days to not feel like I was on a boat anymore!
DonkeysThese poor poor donkeys! Yikes!
