Our ship docked at Mykenos, Greece yesterday. We were both pretty indecisive of what we wanted to do for the day. We ended up taking the shuttle from the ship to the town. The town was the perfect picture of a Greek island town. After walking through the streets a bit, we decided to catch the ferry to Delos. The ferry was 15 euros each round trip to and from Delios, and admission to the ruins was only 5 euros each. This was definately less than Royal Carribean was charging for their tour of the ruins. The ferry ride was about 25 minutes. As we pulled up to the dock our excitement about the trip seeped away. The ruins looked like the ones we saw in Athens, but not as spectacular. We bought our tickets, walked in and wow!!!! It was awesome. The island is covered with lizards. There were skinks, and some type of species that looked similar to a bearded dragon. We will find out the exact names of the lizards and update this entry. We spent about two hours chasing lizards looking at ruins and taking tons of photos. We saw the sacred tree where Apollo was born, and the lion statues. ( Hey Room mates remember the penis statues from the book? We saw them.) We walked through the museum on Delos, which is filled with statues that were carved 400 B.C. and mosiacs that took our breath away. After our trip to Delos, we went back to Mykenos, and found a cafe off the beaten path that was cheap and really good. Two Gyros, and Two drinks for only 7 euros, opposed to all the sea side cafes which were about 20 euros for each of us. We enjoyed our meal, and boarded the ship to head to Katakalon, Greece.
The computer at this internet cafe is having trouble uploading photos, we'll upload some later.
We are in Katakolon, and it is basically like every other port town on a cruise. The main attraction is Olympia, which is over 35 km away, so we are kicking back and just roaming the town, which is when we find the best stuff. After Kataklon, we head back to Venice for a quick lay over, then "All roads lead to Rome."
