People Watching
Having a relax in Kavala Well folks its time to sample the wonders of the great and historic country that is Greece and all the modern day pearls of driving on Greek roads. After all the driving through Europe and Turkey it never stops to amaze me how drivers only apply the rules of the road that suits their particular needs. I have to say I have went native a few times myself to survive with lots of hand gestures and mutterings. Our Greek adventure started in Alexandroupoli a reasonable sized town close to where we crossed over from Turkey. We spent two days here and had some nice walks along the seafront but the weather had taken a turn for the worse and we had to break out the wet weather gear that hadn't been used in months. Its a strange place not a lot of places to get a sit down meal here in November, after much walking we came across a Pizza place, warning should have been the half eaten pasta dishes on the next table that had been left, the pizza was so bad still shudder yet when I think about it.
Not much to see in this town, travellers
That boxing mans house
Floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee Egyptian style I would give it a miss unless your catching a ferry from here.
Kavala, This is a nice town to visit with lots of history, old castle, original home of Muhammod Ali, no not the boxer but the last great ruler of Egypt, surprised me that one. Spent a nice couple of days here visiting sites, eating and people watching we even used local buses as I refused to drive in town as trying to find parking was bedlam.
This is the area which was ruled by King Philip of Macedonia and he built an ancient citywhich the Romans built on top off, great place to visit.(Philip is the father of Alexander the great) did visit the Roman city ruins and Philips museums prior to them closing.
Pella ,had to cut short the cultural stuff due to Greek elections. We never got to any museums that we had planned to visit (Alexander the greats museum and the burial place of Philip and lots more)
Igoumenistra
Our leaving point for Greece and the ferry to Ancona in Italy. Decided that a little pre birthday celebration was required and proceeded to sample some Mettaxa, to be honest a lot
Eunice lecturing
My ears are sore!!!! of Mettaxa (Greek Brandy). Not one of my better ideas, glad the sea was smooth when I got up the next morning because I was rough. Had a nice sunny day wondering around this port town had read a lot of bad reviews, but I have to say cannot agree with them the port area is all being developed and the old town area is full of nice bars and coffee houses. Time for the ferry, for those of you that know me I am not what could be classed as a sailor, I get a little upset on boats even though I cannot be faulted for perseverance I keep going back for more. As if the sea is not enough to contend with I am now 49 years young. All joking aside Super-fast ferry was great never even knew I was on a ship. Really nice cabin and 16 hours of bliss.
