Uh oh sea sickness!

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Syros
We left about 9:30 today. Ares (our skipper) had warned us it was going to be a rough one. Not even ten minutes into the journey and 7 out of the 11 of us were feeling queesy. It turned out that this trip was to be the roughest of the lot! Most of the people on board got very seasick (lucky for Matt and I we were fine!) We arrived in Syros at about 2pm and most of us were starving so we headed out for some lunch. After that we went by bus to Syros town. Mark, Katrina, Melissa, Adrienne [View Full Entry]

More beaches.

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Mykonos
Matt and I decided to go out alone today to see what else we could explore on Mykonos. We first headed by bus to Paraga beach where we lapped up a magnificent view of the beach from a cool poolside bar. We then hiked our way round the mountains of rock to an amazing aerial view of Paradise beach where we had been yesterday. After that we caught a small boat to super paradise beach were we lay on two banana chairs under an umbrella which came at a price. Later we headed back to the boat and met the others, [View Full Entry]

Party Island!

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Mykonos
We arrived in Mykonos about 11:30 and went straight across the road to try and get ourselves some wheels (mopeds), but it was not to be. So we headed off by foot to Mykonos town to have some lunch. The service at the restaurant was terrible, we all thought we were getting hot chips with our toasted sandwiches but we got those french fry crisp things. Luke's meal came out a good twenty minutes after the rest of us finished. After that we got the bus to Paradise beach where it was all happening! Doof doof music, bikinis and sweaty bodies [View Full Entry]

Coctails all round!

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Naxos
We arrived on the pretty island of Naxos. It had been a pleasant trip on the yacht. We decided to go for a bit of an explore. Some of the girls went for a look at the shops, while Matt, Mark, Dave, Jamie, Luke and I took a ten minute walk to a local beach. We went for a swim and then went for a stroll. On the way back we just had to buy an ice-cream. In the evening we had a communal meal on the yacht and then headed out to a cocktail bar where we enjoyed strawberry daiquiris, [View Full Entry]

Dinner on Yacht.

We got up mega early and caught the blue star ferry to Paros. The journey was a pleasant four hours. Luckily when we got to Paros there was a place to store our luggage (for a price of course) and we headed on a bus to a busier part of the Island called Naousa. We spent our day eating ice-cream and exploring. There was a small inlet with some water and rocky sand. We went for a swim then lay on our 1 Euro 50 straw mats and had a nap. Eventually we headed back to the port to meet the [View Full Entry]

Matt @ ferry

The temperature at Kiotari was supposed to have been 123 degrees the day before. I had spent the day with the family crashed out by the swimming pool fighting with people of a certain nationality who had claimed the sunbeds at 12.30am by laying out their beach towels. And so I had hopped from one marble floor tile to another on my frequent visits to the 'all inclusive bar'. What we needed was something to cool us down and so on the Thursday we embarked upon the glass bottom boat that twice a day ploughs its way from Kiotari to Lindos [View Full Entry]

I arrived in Santorini a few days ago after a long, but relaxing boat trip from Pireaus, Athens. The reason it had been so relaxing was the fact that I had to buy a business class ticket of 52euro, since everything else was sold out. The first time I follow an advise in the Lonely Planet Guide and it screws up. I literally hate those guide books by now. I have found countless mistakes in all the once I've used. Mostly I double check, but this time I followed the advise of not buying my boat-ticket before it was sure to [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Rhodes at gone 1am and from the moment that the aircraft doors opened heat swept across us. An hour on the coach took us to Kiotari, a small resort towards the south of the island, about 15km from Lindos. We arrived at the Rhodes Village Hotel, complete with marble foyer, tiled floors and, thankfully, air conditioning. We caught a few hours sleep and then spent the first day settling in. On Monday 1st August 2005 we took a coach to Rhodes town which sits at the very north end of the island. The town is broken into two [View Full Entry]

The Palace of the Grand Master

Hello all, Graeme here, in what will likely be our last (and likely lengthy) travelblog. A few words are needed on Rome before I delve into the insanityy of the Greek Islands. As Jen mentioned, Rome was sweltering, and I found it a bit annoying to walk in such heat given Rome's spartan metro system. The Colosseum was no doubt surreal as was the Vatican. One thing I found weird was how proud Rome seemed of conquering half the world. Surely it wasnt all benign, right? St.Peters Basillica is an impressive peice of architecture, which makes you forget about that little [View Full Entry]
