Group Santorini Sunset
Our fez tour group checking out the santorini sunset on someones roof. Greek Islands
Karen Bowden Ok addition 2 for those of u with little faith in me (Karen) I have turned over a new leaf and will be the ever more dutiful emailer. Ok maybe not but I have at least started addition 2 much to Kristy’s surprise. Ok so we left for the Greek Islands with our 8 new friends and headed for Santorini. Land of the blue domes.
Sunset in Santorini have a look in Kaz sunnies
So after a 6 hour boat ride across the Mediterranean I was climbing the wall with boredom. My ADD started to kick in and Kristy may have seen the writing on the wall that she is actually travelling with a child or a caged animal who doesn’t do long trips well. But we made it to Santorini safely. Felling like we were rich and famous we headed down to the beach for some much needed R&R. All the beaches have little banana beds set up because it is a rock beach and it is a little uncomfortable. Our first impression of the rock beach was a little uncomfortable, thousands of tiny little pebbles that hurt your feet. However, we will endeavour to get the rock pebble beach calluses on our feet so that we can walk along the beach like the locals do….rather than it looking like we are walking on broken glass. Hard to be classy and sophisticated on the Greek isles while u are moaning and groaning about your poor precious baby feet.
Our groups’ obsession with photography is worse than a vogue cover shoot. Kristy is in her element in our new tour group with there being a number of budding young photographers. They spend hours talking apertures, shutter speed and digital photography. The other half of the tour group (Karen included) heads to the nearest beach bar while they deliberate over the perfect shot. Our Italian tour guide through the Greek islands (go figure) has given up with the tour and has renamed it the Photography exhibition - taking us all for a tour through Santorini city streets pointing out the postcard shots so that our budding young photographers could recreate them with their disposable cameras.
Ok other photos that we took included a volcano situated in the centre of Santorini, swimming in thermal mud springs, sunset cruises and lots of swimming in crystal clear waters. The walk up to the top of the hill at Santorini after our cruise was a killer, 520 steps straight up. There was donkey transport up the hill but Kris and I both felt bad for the poor little donkeys that we decided to climb the stairs unassisted. Which we paid for the following week. Our legs have not quite recovered from the Bridge Climb because we keep scaling mountains in between our lazing by the beach.
After two days in Santorini we travelled to Mykonos in a speed boat. Mykonos land of the sugar cubes and almost Ibiza Party life. Tee we finally made it to sugar cube country just for you. We had three days in Mykonos and spent it shopping, swimming laying on the beach, swimming more laying on the beach (well I did that) Kristy was running around with the photography paparazzi harassing and taking pics of any old Greek lady. Paradise Beach was an eye opener. Kris and I felt very overdressed in our swimmers… with many of the Greek locals wearing little more than a headband as tops and belts as skirts. However, our night of beach cocktails on the Greek islands definitely helped us realise why the Greek islands gets its party boy reputation. Ellick found your retirement home in the Greek islands, lots of laying on the beach working on your tan by day to flirting with the boys at nite. Ran into a few random Aussie backpackers… as a nation we are easy to spot in a crowd normally the biggest yobbo with a grin on their face like a kid on Christmas eve is the Aussie.
Kristy’s competitive edge has surfaced with her fellow tour photographers. An inter tour photography competition has commenced, with big prizes for the best postcard photograph at each destination. I am hoping to trump the lot as the novice photographer. But I will let u know how I go.
Left Mykonos on the dodgiest ferry in the world it looked like the titanic after it sunk and was way over crowded. Our seats were not allocated thus we were the last on the boat and had some excellent options of the floor, the floor, the deck or the floor. However, it is amazing what a friendly smile, a little Greek and lots of charades can do…. I managed to score us the last sleeper room for 80 euro so our whole tour bunked into 2 single bunk beds. Let’s just say it was an excellent icebreaker technique.
We survived our titanic ferry ride and arrived in turkey. Whew my job here is done….. woohoo. Kristy will entertain you with the camp K & K addition 3 of our Turkey adventures especially of Constontonble/ Istanbull I know Vicki and Jenny will be waiting with baited breath. Which will be quite soon considering as I write this we are almost finished our tour. In true Bowden fashion better late than never.
Love you all
Having a blast
Love K & K
