Saturday (17-09-‘11)
Not an interesting day at all, I just worked on my thesis and watched some series😊 The other Erasmus people went to visit the Acropolis museum but they said they couldn’t hear the guide very well so I’ll do that another time. In the evening they went to Lycabettus Hill, I should certainly go back there, they say the view was amazing with all the lights of the city.
Sunday (18-09-‘11)
We went to Acropolis to visit the Parthenon and The Dionysus theater. They told us it was going to be a difficult long walk but we were there in 15minutes so it wasn’t that bad… The view from the top is amazing, and the Parthenon itself is too. It’s hard to imagine that they build such a huge monument without any machinery. I want to go back there in the evening because it looks very beautiful lit up from the bottom.
Afterwards, we went back down and ate something in a little café. We took a plate with 4 people, there was a Greek salad, bread and different kinds of meat. I think I like the Greek food, especially the feta cheese they use a
lot I find very tasty😊 They also gave us some special Greek hot wine, it’s pronounced as enomelo but I don’t know how to write it correctly. It’s comparable to Gluhwine but they also put honey in it and maybe something else, I thought it was better!
In the afternoon I was able to skype with Joséfine and Carole who are in Canada so I was happy about that!
In the evening, ESN organized the traffic light party where you had to wear green if you are single, yellow when it’s complicated and red when you are in a relationship. I was very red (no worries Didier😉 ). It was a lot of fun, I think everybody was in a good mood and maybe alcohol had a little to do with it too :p
Monday (19-09-‘11)
I woke up a little early so I could skype with Didier for the first time😊 It was nice to see him and talk to him, it’s too bad hugging is not an option😞
And then, aaah finally a day at the beach! It took us about an hour to get there but it was worth it😊 It
wasn’t one of the nicest beaches so I feel obligated to go to another one :p The sea is very clean here so I’m not afraid to go into the water😊
After the beach we went with 8 people to eat something at Thissio again, the same area we went to eat the first night😊 we all ordered different starters and put them on the middle of the table so everybody could take some on their plate. A lot of dishes were typical Greek like stuffed peppers (it’s actually a paprika), fried cheese, tzatziki (it’s a sauce but it’s difficult to explain the taste), mousakas (also hard to explain but I didn’t like it that much, maybe I’ll have to try it at another restaurant), and some other dishes as well but these are the Greek ones I remember (at least I think that were the names:p). We also had a bottle of wine that I didn’t like that much and a free dessert because the boss was really nice. He also gave us a discount at the end because we were one of the first ones to sit down there. We only had to pay €8,5 and believe me,
we were full😉
This was the end of our introduction week, I don’t know if I’m going to keep writing about every day, maybe just the highlights of the week. But I have to say, I quite enjoy writing this blog. My memory normally isn’t that good so it’s nice to remember what I’ve done this week:p
We’ll see in the future, but when classes start my life probably isn’t going to be this interesting anymore. And writing everyday about class, homework, cooking and sleeping is not going to be an option😉
oh yes, maybe some other fun and not so fun facts. First of all, the cold water you can buy on the streets has a fixed price, it's 50cents for 500ml and €1 for 1l. It's apparently like that everywhere in Greece so if they try to sell it for a higher price (they do that sometimes on the islands) you can say it's illegal and they should sell it to you at the fixed price. I'll let you know if this really works when I go visit some islands😊 In restaurants and cafés you can also get free tap water, I haven't had any problems
with that so I think it's ok to drink...
Not so fun fact, there are big cockroaches (ieuw). I have only seen one on the streets so lets hope I don't see one in my apartment because on of you will have to fly over here to kill it for me:p
Another not so fun fact, you can't flush toiletpaper:s At least we can't in our apartment, they say the pipelines are too small...
Haha I think those are enough details for now:p
