After the TitanicHaving our lunch from Star Lite Deli sitting across the street from the Titanic Exhibition
Our day has lasted about 36 hours. After lunch in New York City, breakfast in London, and dinner in Athens, Jimmy finally feels like a world traveler. In New York, we locked up our luggage at the airport and spent a few hours roaming around Manhattan. We went to the Titanic exhibition just off of 44th between 7th & 8th Avenues. It was bittersweet. Upon entering the museum, you are given boarding passes representing passengers on the voyage. When you exit, you check your boarding pass against the list of survivors. My passenger lived. Jimmy's died. But what can you expect from the Titanic...
Next door to the Titanic exhibition is the Star Lite Deli where we feasted on delicous (and most importantly non-airplane) food. Our stopover in London was too brief to get into much mischief but we promise to remedy that on our way back.
At last around 3pm (local time Athens), we arrived at our hotel. The city was waiting for us... luring us out of the room into its busy streets. We wandered down side streets and finally found our way to the Kotzia Plaza. This plaza dances between the old and new worlds with
gorgeous architecture and modern fountains that illuminate the night. We had dinner at Cafe Duetto. Succulent olives, sweet tomatoes, and rich cheese made for a delicious appetizer and a dish of pasta was the perfect compliment for dinner. I was most amused by the music, one moment we were listening to Greek ballads and the next Bon Jovi was inciting a rebellion with "It's my life!" (Yes, Ina, I thought of you but that was not your only appearance today because on our wanderings home, I found a bakery...the kind your stick your face to and just lust at the window.)
Tomorrow we are headed to the Acropolis but for now...
Good Night with love from Greece,
Ricki & Jimmy
