Baby Gibraltar Ape
This little guy just jumped on!
Photo by Sharon Misheski Land HO! Gibraltar, Great Britain
After 9 ½ days at sea we will be in Gibraltar tomorrow morning at 5 am. Yea! This has been a great crossing. Mostly good weather and the days were filled with reading, lectures on the ports, eating, walking, visiting, eating, making new friends, watching movies on a gigantic screen outdoors on the pool deck, eating, walking the decks, eating, walking the stairs, and more stairs, and more stairs (we’re on deck 11!), and eating to keep up our strength. We crossed over 6 time zones and had to change our clocks so many times our bodies didn’t have a clue as to what time it was. In our dark little cave room (which we love) we didn’t wake up till 10 am one morning and on another night Cope was wide awake and doing our laundry at midnight… ;-) but… that is all behind us and it’s land for us tomorrow. I’ll save this blog and post after we have our day ashore. Great Britain uses “Pounds” and we only have Euros and $ but all should be well… We’ll let you know.
Jean Now Knows the Real Meaning of “Monkey on Your Back!”
What a great day in Gibraltar. As some of you know, we were on one pillar of the “Pillars of Hercules” (Gibraltar). The other being across the Strait of Gibraltar in Africa, a which is only about 12 miles away. It was raining and foggy as we made our way by mini bus to the cable car that would take us to the “top of the rock” where we would see the macaque apes, the tunnels that were used for a 4 year siege in the 1700’s, and St. Michael’s caves. We couldn’t see much going up in the fog and rain but our tour guide from Scotland dutifully pointed into the fog and told us if we could see anything we would see Africa this way and the Mediterranean that way ;-) Our tour guide and driver were fun, fun , fun so despite the awful weather we had a wonderful time laughing, walking up the cliff to the caves in the rain and seeing the tunnels. The best part of the day for Jean was when a baby ape, jumped on Jdean’s back…hope you enjpy the picture as much as I did having the little guy on me! He was soooooo soft . The apes are loose and protected. They are fed and cared for. They are wild however (although you couldn’t tell it by us) and we were told they will bite. But not Jean’s little guy! ;-) Our friend Sharon had the calmness to grab the camera and take this picture, so photo credits go to Sharon Misheski for a great photo that is going to make it to our wall at home. Well, the adventure continues… man overboard, divert to Bermuda, Jumping apes and… to end the day, 2 women almost did not make the ship and held up our departure. Geez! We should have left them. Not sure what they didn’t understand about “be on board at 3:30pm”
. On to Alicante, Spain for those of you looking at maps. We miss you but are having a wonderful time and hope you like reading along with us.
Having trouble uploading the pic! Will try in a little while.
