Automatic pet wash machine
Automatic pet wash machine at the Carrefourre Supermarket, Benalmadena We stayed over in Benalmadena in Spain at the Benalmadena Palace hotel. Great hotel, location is somewhat far out of the resort. By saying this, we found Benalmadena to be such an uninteresting place compared with other resorts in the Med, its is difficult to understand why so many Brits venture there. The town is spread out across a large area which makes browsing around difficult. If you're after shopping and browsing around the shops, don't bother visiting Benalmadena. The whole area including Torremolinos and Fuengirola seems to be stuck in the 1970's with very few decent restaurants, unlike those found around Greece, Turkey and other European countries we could mention. Food standards seem to be much lower than of that found in The Canary islands.
On a positive note, we rented a car via Marbesol from Malaga airport, so we at least had transport to get about. We visited Mijas and Gibraltar. However, our visit to Mijas was en-route back from Gibraltar to our hotel and we planned to revisit the day after for a proper look around. However, the following day the mountains were shrouded in thick cloud and rain and because Mijas is in the mountains, we

Our hotel was great, with excellent entertainment especially at night times in the bar area. One issue with this place is the high cost of snacks and drinks. They know the hotel is in an inconvenient location, so they're taking advantage by charging such high costs. Over 4 Euros for a small plate of fries, which were'nt even home cooked, instead tossed out of a frozen bag into the fryer.
Would we return to this part of the world? I'm afraid not.
Gibraltar made a good day trip though, and the Morrisons supermarket they have here is just like in the UK, even the prices. We ended up taking an Indian curry for two back to our hotel!
Expect to pay around £2.16p for a 50g pouch of Golden Virginia tobacco (around £11.40 in the UK at the moment), a litre of Tuxardo Sambuca will set you back £6.50. Don't go to Gibraltar expecting a good standard of clothes shopping, this is what it lacks, also compare prices with those in the UK prior to going so you have an idea if you're saving much or not....we suspect not. There is

Famous Barbary Ape on Gibraltar Rock a sports shop in the centre of Gibraltar...the cost of sports clothing is way too expensive, so avoid. Its cheaper to buy in the UK.
The trip up the rock starts at £8 each return up the cable-car. If you want to get off and walk around the whole of the Rock of Gibraltar then this will set you back a few more pounds each.
