Thursday, May 1st: We travelled from Bad Soden to Neuenhof today. The 200 km ride was somewhat hampered by a 10 km traffic jam caused by a combination of holiday traffic and a construction area on the autubahn. Did we mention we were chauffeured in a brand new BMW? Our hosts, the Beck's, who are old friends of Pat's mom, picked us up and took us to their house in the old DDR for a couple of nights. After heading off early in the morning we cruised up from Cologne to Weimar along the beloved German autobahn. Around 400kms covered in around 2.5 hours. For those who haven't been on one, it's a pretty awesome experience. Also probably one of the only places that you can be going at 180km/h and be overtaken. We arrived mid morning, and I went for a walk through the industrial area of Erfurt whilst Peter took care of some business at his office. Lutherland: Class Trip Part One-Erfurt, Eisenach, Wittenberg

For the past six days, my classmates and I have gone on a whirlwind tour of everything that is Martin Luther. It was a group trip intended to complement our theology/history class: Luther and Bach. Our schedule looked like this: Feb 26- Reutlingen to Erfurt Feb 27- Erfurt to Eisenach to Wittenberg Feb 28- Wittenberg Feb 29- Wittenberg to Leipzig Mar 1- Leipzig Mar 2- Leipzig to Reutlingen The trip went better than I had expected. Hi Friends and Family, It’s our last day in Oberhof. We’ve been having such a wonderful time. It’s just great to be here in the country. Today, it was time to do some cultural stuff and some lets-get-dirty-in-the-snow stuff! I checked out the possibilities of the day and rang up a lady that organised horse-pulled traps about the village. We had hired a private horse and buggy on the Aran Islands in EIRE ( The Republic of Ireland ) and that was a great experience. Hi Friends and Family, It was soooo good to wake up whenever we wanted to but not exactly whenever as breakfast was available until 10:00 and it was 08:30 already. By the time we had jumped into the shower and got ourselves looking decent, it was 09:15. Not a lot of time really. Ah well! We had a really nice buffet breakfast which was full to the core. Hi Family and Friends, I went to bed pretty late at about 01:30 and at 04:00, I was up again! Bleary eyed, I went through the motions of taking a bath, stuffing the last few things into our suitcases and making sandwiches for our train journey. I figured that if we left the house at 06:00, we would have more than enough time to get the 06:40 train at Hbf or the Main Central Train Station. Hi Friends and Family, As promised, a new journey is beginning yet again. "The Small Young Gentleman" and I are going to Oberhof in Thuringia, Germany for (hopefully) a spot of skiing and a means to which we can spend some quality time together. We’ll be leaving early on Friday morning and returning late on Sunday evening. Oberhof is a town in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district of Thuringia, Germany. Gera is situated in the eastern part of Thueringia State on the river Elster with a population of more than a hundred thousand. In 1945, it was heavily bombed and destroyed a huge portion of the city's historical buildings. It was once part of the German Democratic Republic or East Germany until 1990. This city is very close to my heart. I often visited this place and pretty much enjoyed it. Although, Gera is the second biggest city in Thueringia State, it feels more like a small town and very much predictable. Its not so high driven, fast face city. You [View Full Entry]

Frohe Weihnachten aus der Heimat! An dieser Stelle möchte ich allen, denen ich nicht persönlich meine Weihnachtsgrüße übermitteln kann ein besinnliches und vergnügliches Fest und einen guten Start ins neue Jahr wünschen. Viel ist seit meinem letzten Eintrag nicht passiert, dennoch einige wenige Kleinigkeiten, die zu erwähnen wären. Hier die Kurzfassung: Ende November veranstalteten wir eine Lesenacht mit unserer Klasse zum Thema 100 Jahre Astrid Lindgren. Eine schöne Erfahrung, nicht nur für die Kinder.
