the R$hine
You have not been here and not do one of the boat trips on the Rhine. We decided to do both. One day on the boat and one day by car so we have the best of two worlds. The first trip by boat left at 9 o'clock but that was a bit to early, so we went on the second one that left at 11 o'clock and was more our style. According to the time table, we would be in Rudesheim at about three and leave again at six. Not so when we arrived in Rudesheim we had just 45 minutes to look around. The boat trip itself is okay, the problem is, you are on the boat and cannot get of to see something. You float passed all the places, trying to get the magnificent castles on video or photo. Than there is somebody in front of your lens, or next the sun that bothers you. Going upstream the boat has to work very hard and takes two hours more than the return. The whole trip takes more than six hours. We loved the car trip. You have all the time in the world, can stop where you like.

many castles
It is a beautiful road to drive. We took the ferry oposite the Hotel drove along the Rhine to Rudesheim. Walked along the river to visit the statue of Loreley. In Rudesheim we parked the car to look at this touristic city, with the famous Drossel gasse, that was absolutely crowded with tourists. Next we took the ferry to Bingen and drove the other side back to Boppard. The Rhine is one of those places you have to visit when you are in Europe. It is a very busy river, that carries lots of freight and passengers. Many castles, out of the middle ages, are at strategic points on mountain tops. You wonder how they build them on those impossible places. Now our days at the Rhine are numbered. We will move on again. Till next time Liz & Allan.
