It was a tough day for the California Gold Rush. They got slammed the first match by the the Barbardos Flyin' Fish 7 to 1 (ouch). They really should not feel bad 'cause the Flyin' Fish are basically kicking everyone's a$%! They are 4-0 at this point & have not lost a game yet! Daniel (#8) just does things with the ball that I didn't know was possible! He like seriously was bouncing the ball on his mallet while driblbling down the freakin' field then bounced it over one of our players before he he made a shot at our goal. Like who does that?!?! Daniel is my new hero and the Michael Jorden of the polo community this week. I told Rob not to underestimate them before the cup, and yes I was right 😊 So in summary the Gold Rush got slammed their first match 7 to 1 in favor of the Fish. Douglas was very proud that he was actually able to score 1 point & they came off the field with thier heads held high. But I have to say I do feel just a bit guilty having a Barbardos flag sitting in my room. The second
game was almost rained out, but the team was able to get on the field after the down pour just to be defeated by the Black Rose, while my Kelsey girl is happy, Rob not so much.
One of th exciting moments was during the Turtles & Austria game, after 2 overtime chuckers they were still tied but just about out of battereies. At first they were going to take a tie, but that was contested by another team. After much discussion & consultation between referees & the rule comimitte it was finally determined that the over time chuckers will be played first thing tomorrow.
Here was the final results of the tournament Day #2:
Barbados Fish beat the Black Rose 3 to 1
Austria beat the Aftershocks 2 to 1
Bardados Fish beat the California Gold Rush 7 to 1
Turtles & Austria tied 0 to 0
Aftershocks beat the Buttterflies 2 to 1
Black Rose beat the Gold Rush 0 to 1
The Woz Cup has gotten incredible press, the match between Bardados & the Funky Move Turtles made the front page of the local paper!! The Cup actually was featured on ESPN's website.
Even Rob was interviewed & mentioned in an article in a local publication.
After the games we all took the train into town and had dinner together for drinks, dinner & alittle Guitar Hero action at the Hard Rock Cafe. Sonja & Olaf have really worked hard putting this Woz Cup together. They have really done just an amazing job organizing this event!!
I did an interview with the Barbados Flyin' Fish tonight for the "Christie Report" while the video post was actually pretty good despite my stumbling. I really wish Kelsey & Chey were here to take care of the video portion of the blog! I am so much better at writing,! The sound was horrible I'm going to try to grab a little more of thier time at the field tomorrow and post it after tomorrow's games.
The line up in the morning goes something like this
The 1st place team will play the 4th place team , the 2nd place team will play the 3rd place team, winners of both games will play each other for the grand finale in the tournament championship by tomorrow late afternoon, Cologne time.
Since the Gold
Rush is not going to be playing as they thought they would on Sunday. Rob is going to try to referee some more tomorrow, geez I am a sucker for a man in uniform. We will also be at the Stadion cheering on all our friends who are playing. I may try to sneak out for just a couple of hours for a little more shopping/sightseeing in Cologne in between matches 😊
We are getting a bit homesick & can't wait to see you all!
Gute Nacht! Christie
