DomThe big central church in Cologne
This past weekend some friends and I headed off to Karnival in Koeln, Germany, 2nd largest in the world! We had to get up really early in the morning to head to the train station and it was a long ride down there. I almost made us get off at the wrong stop because I kept hearing Koeln, Koeln, Koeln and I asked someone if this was Koeln and they said yes so I yelled at everyone to get off cause everyone was sleeping... but false alarm... which was good cause we wouldnt have been able to make it otherwise.
We got into the city before we could check-in at the hotel and we wandered around the city for a bit. We got to Airport Hotel by the New Yorker. We left our stuff and headed into the city. We went out that night and did some bar hopping and I tried a Zombie for the first time as well as some local beers. Frueh Koelsch is the best btw. Koelsch being the local type of beer that can only be made in Cologne. We went into a club and rocked to some folk german music and made our way
back. We got back to the airport and the girls took a cab while Herbie and I ran back to the hotel, which is a mile or so. Katie ended up losing the key to the room and we got a replacement but the guy seemed a little confused on how we can lose a key.
The next day we did some walking around and met up with some other people from the program. We did some pre-gaming and I was able to finish the mix-drink I made back in Berlin. Herbie had way too much though and ended up being carted off by paramedics to the hospital. I went with him while everyone else went out and had to talk to the doc's and that in German (nur detusch!). It was a good experience cause I was forced to talk German and I did some translator action. I had to wait there for 3hrs while Herbie slept and we were then kicked out of the hospital. We were able to find a cab after racing with a girl to get one. It was really expensive to get back but we made it alright. We had to get erin
to give the phone to the hotel guy because we were not totally sure where it was, as there are two Waldstr. near the airport. Got back and told Joelle, Erin, and Natalie that we are ok and then had to get Katie at the airport cause she stayed a while longer with the other group and couldnt find a cab to get home. She didnt know the way back so I went out and got her and came back.
Sunday we spent watching the parade which I got two flowers that I gave to the girls who didnt get any and we made our way back to Berlin. We arrived around 2am and it was nice to be home again at Celsiusstr.
