After Greece, I headed to Hannover, Germany, where I was presenting a poster at a conference. The conference was interesting, but since this is a travel blog I won't talk about it. Hannover is a lovely German city - not too big, not too small. It has several historic sights interspersed within the city. The railway station, preserves some of its architecture from the 1800s. The Herrenhausen gardens are a lovely example of baroque gardens - the symmetry and attention to shape is quite fascinating. I also saw the "Nanas by Niki st phalle" which is a piece of modern art work. Hannover also has a couple of medieval churches around. The Hannover zoo is well maintained and one of the best zoos in Europe - or so they say. As part of the conference we visited the town of Hameln, which is where the legend of the Pied Piper originates - and indeed the entire town is devoted to it! But it was nice to see a place youve only read about. Close to Hameln is an ancient castle, where one family has been living since the 1500s - Ive forgotten its name but would recommend it to anyone. I
also made a day trip to Wolfsburg - which is the home of the Volkswagen Autostadt and has an interesting auto museum and some fantastic displays (do check out the Lamborghini pavilion). After my time in Hannover, I visited Gottingen, where I had to go for another conference. I have spent quite some time in Gottingen before so did not do much sight seeing this time around. Finally, I returned to Frankfurt to catch my flight back to the US.
