Geo: 50.0924, 8.68195Great night out with James who introduced me to copious amounts of Apfelwein or apple wine. Similar to a flat cider. Can't recall what I ate but it was yummy and thankfully the head this morning was fine.Woke up to the horrible news of yet another tragedy for Malaysian airlines. What is it with us and disasters every time we travel?Bought a new pair of trainers as I could not walk another step in my DM's.It's a lovely 31c so nice to be warm.... read more

Geo: 50.0924, 8.68195Frankfurt am main. Or Mainhatten as it is nicknamed, due to its glass skyscrapers. Unfortunately 80% of Frankfurt was bombed during WWII so hideous 50's architecture is everywhere. It's a beautiful sunny warm day and already we've covered 6km on foot. Sitting in Romeberg square having a rather large stein to ward off the heat.Omg! The religious convention people have just appeared. "Chris, grab me that scarf from the stall behind you. I need to disguise myself" Tomorrow is Christopher Street Day named after the gay riots at the Stonewall Inn NYC 1969. Rainbow flags are everywhere and the festivities look as though they'll be fun and the German people are not known for their prudishness. What timing! Met a couple from Melbourne well worn but well travelled. Walked on and through a flower ... read more

Geo: 50.0924, 8.681956.30 am and up we get ready for our trip back to Schipol and then onto Frankfurt Germany. What a flight that was! 25 mins back to Schipol then a rush to get our 45 minute flight to Frankfurt. Now, if you know of the characters Edward and Tubbs from the UK comedy 'The League of Gentlemen' then you should be able to visualise this.We board our flight to Frankfurt and these strange couple sit next to me. No sooner had I tried to read a magazine when they both start chatting to me religiously. Yep! They are members of a religious sect which shall remain nameless. They ask me if I have friends within their movement which I politely tell them no; thinking that this would be the end of the conversation. Fuck no!This is gonna ... read more

Yes, please, I sit up and Kirsten is looking at me and says “Good Morning Sunshine” I fall back into my seat and close my eyes. Once again I'm blogging from a bus, this time en route to Berlin from Frankfurt. Since my last post, I have been traveling around Germany; I first spent a day and a half in Munich (München in German, a much more fun name in my opinion). I traveled there via overnight train--no, it wasn't one of those nice sleeper cars. It took about 5 different cable cars, buses, and trains to get there from Gimmelwald, and I had a lousy layover in Karlsruhe from midnight to 2am. At least I didn't have to pay for a hostel! As soon as I got to Munich, I noticed it had much more industry than anywhere I had been in France and Switzerland. Home to the headquarters of the BMW group, whose brands include BMW, Mini, and Rolls Royce, ... read more

I went downstairs to get some hostel breakfast, and ran into Mike again. We decided to try and find some bikes to rent. Our efforts however proved futile as the method to rent them required a phone call, in German, to the bike company whereby they would give us a pin number. In any case we couldn't be bothered, so we decided to just walk. Mike had already been here for several days so he showed me around, beginning with the nearby red light district, then the financial district, then we walked along the Rhine and crossed over towards some residential neighborhoods on the south side. We got an amazing view of the skyline. For blocks and blocks we conversed, sharing travel stories amongst other things. Being that it was Easter Friday, the city seemed quite ... read more
