Hello all, Another great day in Hamburg. Didn't rain like it was supposed to (YAY) so that made for a pleasant trip to and from school. We were all having mixed feelings about having to wake up at 730 for class once again, but once I got Tylenol in my system (woke up with my head pounding- not good, luckily bryan had tylenol) it was off to Colon! We got there by UBahn easily and it only took about 10- 15 minutes, including walking and UBahn. There is a pretty amazing coffee shop on the end of Colonnaden, so we got breakfast and coffee there before class. There are even benches outside where we sat and ate before it was time to go to class. Colonnaden is kind of an upscale area, i would compare it ... read more

Today was another amazing day in the city! I got a late start (SOMEONE woke up late...) and Joe came over around 11:30, 12. Bryan was waiting for Mike who was just gettin in the shower, and I had already been waiting for hours... so we decided to split up. I went with Joe and later on Bryan and Mike went off together too. Joe and I took the U Bahn to Jungfernstieg. When you take the stairs up from the station the view is absolutely breathtaking.. all you see is water, right in front of you, boats, etc. Its not a dock, but its just indescribable. I forgot to take a picture of it, but maybe tomorrow. We got breakfast/lunch at one of the few places that were open, then walked around.. alot. We made ... read more

Hello from Hamburg! Bryan and I arrived yesterday and have been so busy ever since! Yesterday I had no phone or internet so it was rough, but today was soo much fun and better with a connection to the outside world. Our buddy Stephen picked us up at the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) and from there he showed us our rooms in the hall. We immediately went out to dinner at some Turkish place, and it was really good. I had a 1/2 chicken and fries, and they werent lying about the half chicken. it was literally, half a chicken... one leg, one arm.... but it was good. The fries actually tasted exactly like a place on campus (International for those who know) which makes sense, because they are both Turkish places. We got back I ... read more

Meine ... read more

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with Family and Friends back in the states. This was my first big holiday to miss with my family, and I have to admit it was a little hard. But I was determined to make sure that we had an authentic Thanksgiving here. Hosting my first Thanksgiving was tough, but there were many firsts and I ran into a few problems, just a few... The Pumpkin Pie. I managed to locate some Pumpkin Pie filling at the Karstadt downtown. They have an "american aisle", though small, is worth while. But if it gives you an idea, a can of PAM cooking spray is about 6.50 EUROS. (yeah thats about 10 bucks). I looked in my dictionary and translated Evaporated milk to Kondensmilch. I just bought a ton because ... read more

Its been a busy couple of weeks here with lots of friendly faces! I have spent this week trying to get back to normal with school and I have now started my German language class twice a week at nights. I skipped a couple of levels from September so that is promising and im looking forward to improving my skills even more! I am continuing to apply for internships in the spring and finish up my MBA applications for next year. I still find myself with a lot of time! I am trying to appreciate the fact that I am able to sit around for an entire day and do nothing. But as many of you know, I am an active busy person and this is quite hard for me. But I have lots of fun ... read more

I have officially been in Hamburg for almost 3 weeks. Some things are going smoother than others, but as I'm learning, if you just keep following the wild goose chase, as silly as it may seem, you will figure out where you are supposed to be. I love my apartment. I am living with a girl named Tina, who speaks perfect American English. She is actually an English major at the Uni Hamburg and has rented her room out to 5 americans in the past years. Its a cute little room, with a bed, bookshelf, a couch (that folds out to two small beds) a desk, a dresser, and a tv. We have actually quite a large kitchen, for German standards, and the bathroom is an experience. I remember going to brush my teeth the first ... read more

After finally dragging myself away from Amsterdam with a heavy heart I found myself back in Germany, this time in Hamburg to catch up with friends I had made while trekking the Colca Canyon in Peru, Jorn and Ingrid. Once again the red carpet was rolled out for my arrival, almost to the point where I couldn't help but blush. I will be so deeply indebted to my European friends by the time my travels are over that I may well need to train and maintain an auxiliary staff of helper monkeys to adequately repay the favour if any of them come out to visit Australian shores. In all seriousness, I have experienced some fine hospitality in Australia many times, but my experiences in Europe have literally left me speechless on occasion. I wouldn't be able ... read more

I arrived in Hamburg after a delayed flight from Copenhagen late on Thursday afternoon. It was nice to fly in over the city and see all the familiar sights again. This is my third time in Hamburg.. I just keep coming back! Everytime I come here it is like rediscovering the city again... I have been here in Winter, Spring and now Autumn - and the city is a different landscape each time. I met up with Christina at the airport. She and I met when I came to Hamburg as an exchange student back in 1993. We have kept in touch over the years and I visited her last time I was in Hamburg in 2005. Christina has planned my stay in Germany for me... so I am just going along with that! Nice way ... read more

More friends!!! Manu and Hanna made the longest trip for our wedding last year, and we were honored! Their place in Hamburg was beautiful. We played while they were at work (I know, everybody's working while we're playing). We hope they don't notice all the cups and silverware we took! KT and I tried to start an exercise routine by walking/jogging around the beautiful lake around Manu and Hanna's place. We were so sore after the 8k loop, we promptly took 5 days off! I guess we'll give exercise some rest for now. We were also lucky enough to celebrate Manu's birthday with him at their flat. We also went to a wonderful dinner with some of their friends. It was Mallorcan themed, with 4 or 5 courses including what we think was rabbit. Manu also ... read more
