Being away on my birthday isn't really a big deal to me at all. I haven't had a big fussy birthday since grade school and being in EUROPE is a sufficient celebration and everything on top of that... just icing on the cake! My day started off beautifully. My house mother Hildegard shows up at my door with a tray holding a giant vase of fresh flowers, a gift book over Hamburg and a kleinen Kuchen (little cake). Super! As if that's not enough, I went to class and Gladys (refer to other posts and pictures) brought me a huge bar of chocolate! Not only had pretty much everyone remembered it was my b-day, she actually brought me a gift. But wait, there's more! We have a 30 minute break half way through and today, all of the sudden, Silvio and Erich whip out this adorably little strawberry torte-cake thing and then freaking Fabiano brought Brazilian tortes and soda for EVERYONE. He also brought celebratory Brazilian music to play and gave me a tote (bag) as a gift. He takes birthday's very seriously ;)! Sooooo surprised, so amazing, so adorable. It's been what? 3 days. And already everyone has developed into

I am very pleased to see that you had lots of people that care about you on your birthday over there. I saw the pictures that you posted of the plane ride and they are beautiful! I am glad that you had a great birthday. I agree with you that it isn't the location that makes a birthday special, it is the people that you are surrounded by and it looks like you had plenty of good people by your side.
Oh by the way I am official a jayhawk now, it was a long day but very productive. I met four people, none of each was male, which isn't a bad thing:)
